Dont agree with the Blackburn one anyway. He only played with Blackburn for 3-4 seasons. I wouldve put in Simon Garner

Maradona at number 6? Please. And Cruyff at 21? both should be a lot higher.

Funny how they're almost always attacking players isn't it? With the notable exception of West Ham's Bobby Moore anyway.

On that note, I'd have Big Tone Adams as Arsenal's greatest ever.
Come on, he was even nicknamed 'Mr Arsenal', the clue is right there people!!!:D

Seriously tho, Tony Adams all the way.

EDIT: And no Dennis Bergkamp on the all-time overall list? How is that even possible?!

Luis Figo 4th best player ever?

    WTF!

Cafu was a great player but above Cruyff and Maldini?

These lists are so unbelievably pointless!

    Best or Cantona

Best will always suffer on international list , because of his national and their record at major events. It is just a fact that because he never got to perform at a major tournament or got to win anything (international) he never gets mentioned.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,383 ✭✭✭Juan Pablo

While Trautman was a legend for City surely Colin Bell was our greatest ever. And Romario > Pele > Ronaldo.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 1,321 ✭✭✭prendy

    should ronaldhino get a mention?

    and keane at utd?
i mean he was the central figure in the clubs most successful ever team?
maybe in 50 years time todays stars will get that kinda recognition.

I always thought Eusabio was one of the all time greats, or did he just have a great world cup in 1970? I’m surprised he is only ranked 19th, especially if Luis Figo is number 4??

I never saw Jimmy Dickinson play but he is the biggest legend our club has produced, His picture is painted on the seats in the Fratton End. The best player I ever saw play for us was Robert Prosinecki (despite the fact that he was 36 and years of smoking 40 a day had taken their toll) but that was only for one season so it doesn’t count it suppose. Apart from Prosi, Neil Webb and Mark Hateley were both great and as for Benjani ……..:D

Stuart Pearce as Forest's greatest player?

We won the European Cup twice you know. FFS

    Figo? Haaaaahhhahahahahahahahaha

As for Neil Redfearn..... Oh dear....

I assume this is the saem list that was discussed in a thread a couple of weeks back?

It looks the same. The way they picked the all time list (theres actually 100 on the list with Roy Keane at 92 and no George Best) was a lot to do with international stats which killed off th echances of BEst. It's from a new book about the best players ever, that George Best manages to get on the cover of but isnt mentioned in. :D

    Indeed.

The second list 'World's Greatest' is an absolute farce. Seeing Cafu and R.Carlos so far up exemplifies that

those lists are always good for a laugh.

Duncan Edwards for Utd over George Best?
    Figo at number 4. :D

ahhh the short termism of football fans...

It's the exact same list as the one a few weeks ago. It's purely based on stats, not opinion.

Paul McGrath for villla? madness, great a player as he was though i think he will always be regarded as a man utd player rather then villa.

for villa i think Gordon Cowans,Nigel Spink, Peter Withe and maybe platty in his pomp

and of course the whole of the 1982 team captained by this manhttp://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Image:Mortimer.jpg

*edit* if were going way old school then it has to be pongo waring*edit*

well ill qualify it by saying that in general irish company(my friends)when talking bout him its always ireland and man utd. they mention as in "paul mcgrath legend for ireland and utd"

of course in brummie company(my family) its paul the legend, player of the year 93 and all that

let me, as a villa fan, re-affirm what a hero the man is

    *bows to god*

Paul McGrath would be better known as a villa player, considering his amazing 93 season, that and playing a hundred odd more games for Villa...

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 15,956 ✭✭✭✭Villain

invincibleirish you obviously have neven been to Villa Park, Paul McGrath is known as GOD at the Villa Park you will still see hundreds if not thousands of Villa shirts around Villa with GOD and number 4 on the shirt. McGrath is regarded as Villa's best player ever because he was, simple.

    Who's this Le Tissier fella?

Van Basten should be top ten at least but these lists don't bother me in the slightest, everyone is going to have their opinions.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 15,552 ✭✭✭✭GuanYin

Pfft, we all know from match of the day that the top 10 list should be like this:

    1. David Beckham
    2. Gazza
    3. Tony Adams
    4. Alan Shearer
    5. Bryan Robson
    6. Frank Lampard
    7. Gary Lineker
    8. Micheal Owen
    9. Peter Shilton
    10. Rio Ferdinand/John Terry

yes i have been to VP,probably more times then you(i dont wish that to sound condescending and i saw him play for villa(and derby) many times)

im well aware of pauls status in birmingham but i wouldnt think he is villas best player of all time, that doesnt make me evil its just id rather peter withe and spink et al euro cup 82(despite i never seeing them play except spink) for simple reason he scored winner in ec final

my original point was in irish eyes (my friends, associates etc.) mcgrath is seen as an ireland player first, united second then villa third, bit like people always talk about staunton as a "former liverpool player" although best years of his career like mcgraths were at the villa

*edit* scratch all that my nomination for best villa player ftw was phil king, scoring winning penalty v inter then going back to sheffield wed reserves *edit*

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 15,956 ✭✭✭✭Villain

Well in Villa fans eyes he was a Villa player first and Irish second and I don't know any other player that Villa Fans call God, not Cowans or Withe or Spink.
