Since when did salad become a necessary part of a steak dinner?

I was out with the OH last night and went for grub...sirloin steak looked like a good option that is until it came out.
big plate....tiny steak and lots of Rabbitt food....
My Question is when did all restraunts start doing this?
I know it makes a dish look bigger but WTF salad with steak????
Does it annoy anyone else or am i just a moaning fool!!!!

You need to go to a place that knows about steak. Try Shanahans on the Green. Superb in every way and no I dont work for them.

And if you want a good steak with all the trimmings be prepared to pay for it, none of this Dunnes Stores Striploin nonsense.

You don't win friends with salad! You don't win friends with salad!

Quite a few people eat steak with salad but I'm surprised the restaurant didn't offer you the choice of any kind of potato... was there maybe a side option of spuds but it'd cost more? Bit sly of them...

Where were you, so I know to avoid it???

No weight on the menu and you didn't ask? No point complaining in all fairness..

You'll only get a proper steak in a proper restaurant.

Salid: It's what food eats. Manly men enjoy steak with a side order of steak.

In fairness though, I do like a bit of salad with my steak. Chips are just totally uninteresting and i've been fed them since I was a nipper.

wrapped in bacon with a steak dip nearby :D

Anyone remember that Fosters ad years ago where they show a close up of a steak and sprinkle some grass on it? "Salad"

I like my steak with mash, veg and pepper sauce. (or garlic butter if there is no chance of a snog later) If you want a really wonderful steak go to Darwins on aungier street, its between 25 and 30 for a main but it well worth it and cheaper than Shanahans. Great wine list too.

The only thing a steak should come with is another steak...

    Steak rocks...

    So does Shanahans...

I like my steak with a side order of beer, football and strippers.

Salad only for girl. Man eat meat. make fire to cook. also to burn plastic. mm.

Ye're all very unadventurous. I like steak served with a couple of pork chops on the side, and perhaps garnished with a battered sausage.

nah what you really want is steak with some baby back ribs and BBQ chicken

On average 3/10 people order salad with their steaks (well here anyway).

Standard rule of thumb is salad should be roughly 1/3rd of the size of plate being used.

What really send my temp soaring is when places give you salad with your steak but you have to pay extra for patatoes  All about making an extra buck. Veg and spuds of some sort should be included in the meal...........this is Ireland ffs!

I had a farm-grill meal once, it had a steak, a pork chop, 2 sausages, 2 rashers, mushrooms and some salad, it was in some restaurant beside Dr. Quirkie's arcade at the bottom of O'Connell street! :D That was the best meal I've had all year :D

Just been down to the Christmas market in Belfast at the City Hall and they have springbok, ostrich, boar and kangaroo steaks.

    I ate it with mustard.

I always ask for no salad on everything I order, steak or otherwise. It takes away from the flavour of the meat. Give me a fat juicy steak with beer battered wedges on the side. Mmmmmm

    I want some steak :(

Had a fantastic steak in London last month (can't remember the places name though). It was amazing, I drooled a little when it came out...

Haha. I ordered that in a hotel in Ashbourne not too long ago. Along comes two chops, sausages, rashers, pudding, beans, mushrooms, tomatoe, the lot. Two bits of brown bread and a pot of tea. The worst thing was that everything came at once so it took FOUR people to carry it. (one had the meal, one had the bread, one had the tea, and one had an extendable folding table because it didnt all fit on my table)
Everyone turned to see what manner of man whale had just ordered the entire pantry, and my friend sitting opposite (with a bowl of pasta) was disgusted.
That was the tastiest embarrasing experience I've ever had.

Not even vegetables should be put on the same plate as a steak. The only exception are spuds (which are there own food group so don't count as greenery) onions and mushrooms and that's only because they've had the goodness cooked out of them.

In London I went to the Gaucho grill, serious steak place, makes no excuses. The chairs are covered in Cow Hide :D The weight of each steak is on the menu and they show the cut of meat to you before they cook it. Not a salad in sight. Now that's a steak restaurant.

I was working in Kill a couple of years back and there is a pub/ restaurant there which opens for breakfast.
For €6 they served the usualy fry, but they added steak to it.
I went there almost every day for the three weeks I was on that job.

Ye inspired me, I went over to the butcher and ordered a "big thick steak" It's an inch thick cooked and as big as the plate. :D

I didn't realise you went to every restuarant in the world - I thought your example was based on just one experience.
