    hya's,

I've been a bit quite lately so here's a few for you to criticise/discuss
Somehow I managed to get roped (i.e. for free) into taking pictures of the local church (Dunshaughlin, Meath), it's only been around for 25 years, so don't expect an old church, but it does have an interesting crucifix, there are 2 photo's that I'm undecided about, the first one is of the feet on the crucifix and the second one is Jesus (who else ?) on the crucifix.

The "B" photo's were taken just as the sun came out and started to highlight one area of Jesus and also the light was hitting the very tip of his left "middle" . B-1 is my standard type version, the other's were made with messing around with the channel mixer on the A-1.

    So any thought's ?
    Thanks,
    Muineach

And no, I'm not becoming a religious nutter :)

i think a crop will add to the 2nd image. hope you dont mind but i found it hard what i wanted to say exactly so ive just cropped it myself. think the use of negative space is good in the crop imo and it makes for a better pic. what do you think?

That crop looks great and would go for something like the BW from B-3 with a bit more noise.

very nice work there Muineach it really puts the fear of god in ya.

oh yea and for the feet A-2 is a winner the other looks a bit too real for my liking.

yea that crop does looks a lot better, never thought of that, I guess I've done 14 stained glass windows already and never thought to remove it, the priest likes the stained glass windows  but yea that crop does look a lot better, thanks.

Sebzy, that crucifix is definitely odd, looks fine from the seats, but once your up close it doe's get kinda freaky, I have one a few more close up's of the head and I'll pop them on when I've given them a once over, freaky.

oh yea, I had to take a photo of the stations of the cross, yep all 14, imagine that when some didn't have lighting, and they were made out of beaten copper, bloody nightmare, all I'm thinking is this has to make up for some of my previous behaviour :D

oh and i just cloned out the piece of light shining on his middle finger. cant stop thinking ET phone home.... actually more like JC phone home:D and looking at the photos again i think the b2/b4 photo has a better use of light but thats jsut personal choice me thinks!

I really like the crop, think the same approach would work well on B-4, think you did a great job on the light in that one, I personally find the other bws a little dark. Nice series though, interesting experiment.

I think keep the colour in both.

Personally I would not crop image B as it would make it somewhat generic. Keeping the stained glass in the image makes it recognisable, and it looks good too.

    A1 & B1 ftw!

back again, here are 4 photo's of the head, 2 colour and 2 b&w
The black line on the bottom left is where he was speared on the cross, so no cloning that out :P the other thing with this one is that the original was slightly blurred due to my handshake, plus with the resize they've lost a good bit of detail/sharpness (quick PS job, must of picked the wrong option). Look's like I have to do up a contact sheet for the priest

My favourites from above would be A-2 (b&w nailing) and B-2 (dark colouring) & B-4 (darker b&w) but I also like the crop as well, out of these ones I tend to like C-2 & C-4

    go on be critical :)

    thanks
