Nice example of a "mackerel sky" (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Altocumulus_mackerel_sky) there nemonoid, the saying goes roughly "mackerel sky, not long wet, not long dry". Great capture!

In the winter it is often said to precede snowstorms and flurries.

Your pics are better than the ones on the Wiki to be honest, it was easy to identify :)

These ones were taken near dusk of the 27th at 3:45pm, ironic that i took these on same day as OP!

Not at all!! :- nemonoid captured change about to happen you captured it happening.

Both sets of snaps are admirable in a fast changing area like Ireland. Thanks for sharing them .

My wife said the very same thing :)

It actually looked even more impressive first hand, I stumbled out of the back door to get the bike out of the shed, was half asleep and it was a kind of "wow" moment when I looked up.

One thing I love about the weather here is the great range of interesting skys we get, the wife being from Cali has noticed it too, just about makes up for the rain!
