I am looking to build/buy and PC for High Def playback (1080p) to a HDTV. I am not concerned with anything else apart from this. Can anyone recommend the type of spec I might need. HDMI out video card would be great and 5.1 component or HDMI out sound card would be fine too. While I used to build PCs a long time ago, I haven't in a while and I am unsure what spec I would need for RAM, CPU speed etc. Can anyone recommend a good spec for such a purpose?

BTW, I have tired to source this myself but I am getting conflicting opinions on clock speed and video card specs.

It depends a lot on what kind of HD you are talking about. Not all HD is created equal. For Example, a 1080p HD movie from Microsoft HD samples will play on a prtty mundane system 2.6-2.8Ghz P4 (call it an entry level core2) and an FX5200 graphics card.

HD-DVD and Blueay are a little different. There was some recent discussion on HD specs, furthermore there is a HD "benchmarking" thread below. have a search and you will find what you need.
