OK, most of us on here are lazy, well rounded (literally) males with a taste for drink and high cholesterol foods, or else tasty wimmins who like to please their menfolk.

On occasion though I have strayed into some strange forums here on boards and found the creatures that reside there to be odd and different, and speaking in a language I don't really understand, but which I recognise as a variant of English. The Weather forum would be an example of that to me.

Basically I am wondering how many of us do things aside from drink and normal stuff, that would be odd and weird to the uninitiated. I know the fact that I post most of my rubbish in poker forum would be a source of mystery to many of you if you were to read the contents of my posts, one of which may read like:

1/2 PLO, 6 max. I was holding 8d9dTsJs UTG, potted it to 7 preflop, got 3 callers. Flop came 3d8s9s giving me top 2, an oesfd, and a backdoor flush draw.
    etc, etc

That makes perfect sense to me, but after having looked at some other forums while bored and realising I couldn't carry out a conversation at any level other than 'duh' in some of them, I was wondering were there other weird creatures in here too? Do you post in Fashionspeak? Do you know your weather terminology? Are you a technogeek?

Post something here that might be second nature to you, but incomprehensible to others not familiar with your forum. I notice there is a 'Fitness' forum, whatever that is, and I am sure there is weird terminology used in loads of other places.

Maybe most of ye though are too lazy to post elsewhere, and I salute that too. This thread could flatline very quickly too I guess, but it made sense at the time I thought of it.

I post on some of the tech forums so I'm sure some of the stuff I post there would confuse most people. Also I've mentioned the four lights on the sligo forum. To most of you it would seem I am talking about some sort of lighting arrangement. Oh, how wrong you are.

I know. Yes, I do indeed.

I speak fluent geek, and lurk in several of the tech forums ... I don't like the support aspects so much, so I tend not to post/respond too much.

I also like to lurk in the soccer & rugby forums, as well as martial arts. I prefer to listen, and not speak up so much. It makes me seem wiser than I really am ;)

It's really only here that I get anyway vocal, as the regulars tend to be a nice bunch of people. Some forums, to my eyes, appear cliquey and not very welcoming to n00bs or people without extreme zeal blazing from their keyboards.

Rarely visit the poker forum, as the posts seem to be in some obscure code, similar to what I imagine the Masons use

Then there are some forums that are downright obscure ... I won't name them, because I am afraid of the regulars.

Finally, we have the private forums, which offend me in a very philosophical way ... my view is everyone counts, or nobody counts, so why all the secrecy ?

I'm a Leeds fan. Most of the soccer forum don't appear to understand discussions about League One :(

Surely that is just a further part of the conspiracy against you? First 15 points and now internet obscurity.

Agreed on the poker forum. I play a bit and I'm above average on the discrete maths side of things, but they're all speaking swahilii there. Moreover, whilst if I make a bags of a hand, I forget about it and move on, they'll consult 200 other savants who'll tell them 199 ways they're wrong.

I've a passing interest in Astronomy.
    I like DIY.
    I'm mad for the cooking.

(My level of participation in the relevant forums would reflect my level of interest.)

The science fora, more specifically any chemistry threads would be somewhere I'd head off to speak another language loosely involving English

    Allah/God/C2H5OH

Most of my job discussions, conversations and work involve MeOH, ACN, H3PO4, KH2PO4, NaClO4 etc. etc.
