Just ordered my macbook pro a min ago and i ordered it with the 120GB SATA HDD.

Im just wondering what anybody thinks about running windows on it, i want to be able to just run very simple windows programs and run some online software (like paddy power poker etc).

Should I use Bootcamp and partition the drive (is the 120gb big enough???) or what do people think of parallel.

Have i made a mistake ordering with the 120gb drive? Should i contact them and try get a bigger drive?

man you're gonna be fine!!! if you fancy the idea of having mac & windoze apps running at the same time then go for parallels or vmware.

120GB is going to be fine

Never had a problem with parallels, you can use it to boot your bootcamp OS, having the best of both worlds.

VMware Fuzion is hardly a sham ? thats a bit outrageous in fairness.

Try them all and see which one you prefer.

sham is a strong word but it just amuses me how slow it was.

parallels is very good and thats what im using now while im waiting on bootcamp 2, but i still think there a bit finnicky.........

Cant wait lads, in the middle of completing my FYP (due in May 2008) and my 12 inch 3 year old macbook pro has just failes miserably starting with the cddrive, then the hdd is slow and often fails to boot etc etc.

I have been humming about this for a while and just bit the bullet today, but then pannicked! lol.

I processed my order on apple's website but i have not recieved email confirmation? Can anybody advise?

Can you wait till the sale on Friday cooper_man??

As for the MBP, I doubt they will get a change till 2008, even the 17" inch which is due to be bumped up (was not upgraded with the 15"'s the last time) is not likely to get an update this side of Christmas.

Go with the latest model, its only only since August, safe enough, IMHO.

I absolutely love parallels, been using it since it first came out, alongside bootcamp, but soon realized that it was a such waste of hard disk space and the rebooting was driving me spare, so I deleted my Bootcamp partition.

It works flawlessly for everything apart from intense 3D gaming (Counterstrike works grand though) with 2 gigs of ram/macbook original core duo, I rarely if ever have any crashes.

I was gagging for XP for some work related software, and with the advent of leopard I've gotten to really like Spaces for this, and generally leave XP running in the background on my second desktop unless i want to run something stupidly intensive like video conversion in OSX.

Well worth the money - bootcamp may be best for performance, parallels for handiness though.

Aye it might not be updated til after christmas, but it seems like the cost of the mac book pro at the moment doesnt really represent very good value given that santa rosa is also available in the 13 inch macbook for a much much lower price. Why not get a macbook if you are used to a 12 inch screen anyway? The only reason I can see why you would got for the mbp is for the better video card.

Thanks for the responses lads, ill have to get my hands on a copy of Parallels, if anybody knows any good sources, drop me a pm!

Truckle, thats exactly why. I do multimedia in college and do a lot of video editing etc so i needed a bigger screen and better card!

    ... ummm http://www.parallels.com/ ?

its not that expensive, I don't always endorse paying for every little bit of software, but they do put in the effort and in my eyes anyhow, its priceless.
