i recently bought flight sim x and no matter what computer i tried to run it on it was jumpy and slow even with the graphics on low settings.
i really want to play this game on high settings so i have ordered a dell xps desktop with
    quad core 3.4 ghz,1333mhz fsb,8mb cache.
    4 gig ram 667mhzddr2
    1 tb hard drive
    dual 768mb nvidia geforce 8800gtx
(this all means nothing to me)
the cheque should clear in a few days so if anyone reacons it still wont run for me with this spec could you please let me know and if possible tell me what i do need so i can cancel it.

    all help really appreciated

The FS series has always been designed for hardware in the future, so it's very hard to get the latest version running smoothly because the hardware specs need to catch up.

That said, the specs listed above should do very nicely indeed! I have a Quad Core E6600 ~2.7GHZ (I forget the exact number), 2 GB ram and the same graphics card, and get good results using FS-X.

The framerates aren't the best at times, but that's because I use Vatsim, LDS 767 and complex addon scenery. However, even if the frame rates counter may only say 15 - it's smooth and that's the most important thing.

The XPS range are also easily upgraded, and can be overclocked to beef up performance. You could for example, add another graphics card of the exact same type so that you'd have 768mb x 2. This is just an option for you further down the line.

You'll have no problem playing any games on that rig, it's a beast! :D

The pc you ordered will do fine for the game. Ill even go as far and says its a bit overkill. But sure, its gonna last you a good few years.

FS isn't like other games when it comes to Frame rates. When you watch a film in a cinema, that runs at either 24 or 26 Frames per second. So 15 is well below that, yet the simulation can still run smoothly.

You'll get a lot more than 15fps because your machine is a lot faster than mine. And I only noticed after posting my original reply -you already have the dual 8800gtx's so you're sorted.

Relax man, FSX is gonna fly on your machine :D

First off..FSX is notoriously bad for fps..having SLI (dual video cards) actually has a hit on the performance of it. It's basically **** programming.
Saying that the pc you bought is not going to bring you much difference over a system a grand cheaper. It's just the way the game is made.
Everyone is bitching about this game, the crap coding, the so-called dx10 screenshots which was made with paint and not actual screenshots.
The absolute terrible SLI performance etc etc.
Also if you're running this on Vista make sure to have 4 gigs of ram.
My system below crashed out with "out of memory" with 2 gigs...

FS2004 will remain as king for a while yet so it seems...

Best of luck with your system anyway Moby10.

Set FPS to unlimited. That way it will perform to its capabilities
