Well....it's Nottingham. If someone from there posted on this thread about cool places to go in Leitrim then they may not get too many replies either :)

It's a big town/city, loads of bars clubs all over the place but there's nothing about the nightlife there that stands out more than other cities. It is though a drinkers town. expect bouncers on doors on almost every bar, every day of the week from 3pm onwards. It also has a rep of being a place where fights start very quickly and a load of drunk Irish guys would really stand out more then the usual group of drunk lads.

I imagine there would never be a problem but some Irish lads have a tendency to speak a little 'louder' after a few pints and voice opinions that they would otherwise not in a more sober state :) A large % of the soldiers killed in the 1916 rising were from here. Most were young lads, all volunteers and all from the surrounding Notts region and all died in Dublin which is still a sore point amongst some natives (the youth probably couldn't give a toss).

Visit the Trip To Jeruslem to see the oldest pub in England (or so they claim), the Pitch & Piano Pub to have a drink in an old church and Lost Weekend for funky club music.

As Ponster said. Not exactly alot to do there. You could visit the Robin Hood Castle which is around the corner from "England's oldest pub". As for the Pitcher and Piano, there is something very satisfying about taking a piss in a church, lol!!

I was in Nottingham for a wedding a while ago and this is very true. I saw loads of fights kick off, luckily our guide for the weekend was a monster of a guy who was well known in a lot of pubs and we were left alone, but that was as a group of couples. A group of lads, that's a different scenario - just keep your wits about you - it is a very "Rule Brittania / God Save The Queen" type of town and your accents will stand out.

That aside, we had a great weekend.

was over there watching the cricket earlier this year, stayed in a travelodge
    https://www.travelodge.co.uk/find_a_hotel/hotel.php?hotel_id=290
which was very handy for town. just around the corner (on friar lane) from it are a few pubs that might tickle your fancy (some australian place and the pub opposite are lively enough spots) and there's a lapdancing place that some of the others went to (though they did say the women weren't the prettiest).
didn't see any fights or trouble at all or any anti-irish behaviour. there's a decent indian restaurant under the travelodge and it really is dead central for everything. sites wise apart from the castle there's not much really, but it's a good spot for a lads weekend away. have fun

I've rarely seen any anti-Irish stuff in Nottingham except when the Irish lads went looking for it :)

Nor did i, i was there before for NYE 2002 and had a good time, went to some club called The Bomb or something,Nottingham is a medium sized town smaller a bit smaller than Cork id say, didn't get to see loads of the town but it seems like a decent enough place from what i did see.

I don't mean specificaly anti-Irish but just anti-not English after a night on the beer.

I am just suggesting that the OP & friends have their wits about them (as in any other foreign town really) if they are planning a heavy drinking session.

PS. Go easy on the rebel songs ;)
