What old laws/practices would you like to see again?

Basically as the title says, what old laws and practices would you like to see in use in modern time?

For me it would have to be the ducking stool to punish dishonest businesses/business men. Most of the businesses I've encountered would have been ducked a long time ago.

So, what old laws and practices would you like to see in use?

Let's say there's a criminal gang committing an armed robbery, and one of them shoots and kills a security guard, then they should all be charged and found guility of murder. This gives the rest of the gang an incentive to restrain any hot heads.

Similarly even if you don't pull the trigger, if you're driving the bike used in a murder hit, you should be charged with murder, not just as an accessory\or with conspiracy to commit.

Also, I'd do away with the 'obligation to retreat' if you're in your own home and there's an intruder.

We should bring back flogging for corrupt politicians, one lash for every euro of bribe and backhander money they receive. This should be done in public so we can all attend, bring packed lunches and make a day of it.

    Stocks.
Put every boy racer, drink driver, shop lifter etc in stocks and lets the local people throw rotten fruit and veg at them.

Ok, my conspiracy law is a little rusty but these are all true. Well, the first two depend on the level of planning before hand but as much I can remember the law does allow all parties to be chargerd for shooting.

There is no such thing as an obligation to retreat.

I say bring back the birch (whip) for the muggers, thieves etc. It might be more of a deterrant than a suspended sentence.
I also second Terry's suggestion about putting them in stocks.

OMFG, never heard of it and had to look it up .... scary scary thing. But yes, I'd agree with mutilitation of sex offenders.

As for the stocks, god yes .... the threat of public humiliation would bring a lot of those gimps back into line

The heads of criminals on spikes. We could put them randomly around Dublin and not have to worry about street ornamentation any more.

Random hangins, just round up certain groups at random and start executin them randomly. like this week ya execute 17 boy racers and next week probably turn on TV licence fraud or proper corporate tax evasion see that way it looks better in print whenpresente to the world media

oh and a return to the good ole days when ya were allowed ta build nuclear reactor/shhhhhitsnotaMisile sites in ye back yard without some fedrl officer comin up and spoutin on about regulations prohibitin the possession of fissibile material in an urban area.

Does anyone know why, and when, did the practice of flogging criminals, and pelting dishonourable public servants with rotten fruit, stopped?

The Stocks for sure, for petty crims, joyriders, politicians..etc

They sould set em up on the O Connell St Plaza in front of the GPO, then you wouldn't have to go to far to Moore St, at the end of Saturday Trading, to get hold of any Rotten/Damaged Fruit that's goin.

Great enterainment before, or after goin to the pub on a Saturday night too.:D

Everybody wins ! Joe Public has a bit of fun, and the street Traders make a few quid on the crap they can't otherwise sell :)

Excuse me? You're actually saying that ALL women voted for Bertie and if women didn't vote he wouldn't be in power. Really? I find that highly offensive!

See this is why we shouldn't have given you the vote. 1+1=9.

The abstract progression of your above statement from my own is so utterly stupid as to defy rational retort. ( You can find that offensive too but I'm merely attacking the logic, not you)) Good day.

Agree, I used to be totally against the idea, but certain horrific crimes in recent years have changed my opinion.
