I really cant believe no one is talking about Marcus Horan and his yellow card in last Saturdays game?? When i saw it happening i really couldnt believe the way he was laying into the guy while holding his head down - then when i saw the replay in slow motion.... unreal.... No word on a citing - one of the commentators even said that there was a citing commissioner representative at the game...?

It was dealt with by the ref on the pitch, so it was probably felt that was enough.

Should be cited for spending too much time on the wing as well ;)

Isn't it the case that you can't be cited once you've been yellow carded?

You can still be cited but most cases if it is felt the ref has dealt with the issue then there is no need for further penalties.

Is he being cited for hanging out on the wing, taking breathers?

There's no Munster loosehead with as many caps and as much experience as him Horan. It's not a crime for a prop to find himself with an oppurtunity on the wing and to take it and the appeal of Horan is that he's more dynamic than the stereotypical 'fat' prop. It was nice to see Poochie score a try on Saturday too.

I watched it on Setanta and the commentator reckoned he was spat at. Couldn't see it properly though, there was a few shenanigans in the front row all evening.
Like Quinlan , Horan really can't restrain himself when provoked and will lash out to the detriment of his team.

True but you see Quinlan makes up for that by being a huge use on the field while Horan...............ehhh...............fills the space on the wing? His days in a rugby shirt should have been finished long ago now

I haven't see the incident on TV but I thought he might have been called before the citing commissioner as well. I also thought Keith Gleeson and Leinster's No5 might be joining him, Gleeson for his silly punch and stamp and the No. 5 for leading with his elbow as he went into the ruck where Gleeson was Sinbinned from.

All in all it could have been a very costly week-end for Irish rugby.

I love this attitude, so quinlan makes up for being a dirty player by being useful? bull.

Dunno if that's true any more. He bulked up a lot during the WC preparation. This seems to have slowed him down a fair bit, but i'd forgive that since munster and ireland's scrum has been noticabley more solid since.

I'd agree that he's always had a lot of endeavor about him in open play, but how many times can you remember it paying off? It always seems to be a case of 'nice attempt, but made a mess of it'.

As to the op, I didn't see the incident properley. I would agree that his dicipline is generally not the best.

Well would you rather him being totally useless but play anyway and live on the edge of the rules? Right he'll cost Munster and Ireland [if he gets picked] 3 or 6 points but sure he's a 6 it comes with the job, what we hope for his is on the edge play to pay dividends and for him not to step over that line

Never, ever! Can't conceive of the amount of times lately I've seen promising back moves come to naught because the recipient of the crucial pass was a fun bus, or how many easy tries conceded when a winger/centre steps a lumbering prop. Some second/back rowers can pull it off in close (the likes of george Skivington for example) but other than that it's tactical suicide....

Quinlan is not a dirty player but is prone at times to lose the head.I would prefer to have a guy like him than one of these players who do a lot of unseen work i.e they do very little.Quinlan has the ability to drive the whole pack to a higher level of intensity and has been the outstanding back row forward in Ireland this year. One thing he could never be accused of is shirking his responsibilities or being a shrinking violet and how I wish he had been used at the world cup to show the rest of them that it's not ok to underperform and accept being shown up by inferior opponents. At times he can annoy you when he gives away silly penalties but the positives he gives far outweighs the negatives. It's a terrible pity that he is now injured. As for Marcus Horan---I saw him play for Shannon against Garryowen a few weeks ago and he was not partiularly impressive. He appears to be in decline. He is a guy who started out with huge potential but I think he has fallen a fair bit short of this.He can probably still compete at Magners level but is not a force at International or even Heineken level any more.

Shan75, reckon that pretty much, and rather succinctly, sums the whole thing up re: Quinlan and Horan....

Well said - he's far too keen to try a little chip ahead and fluff it completely. Even his handling taking short passes around the fringes can be very poor.

He was last saw out on the wing looked slightly cheesefaced

will take every opportunity to milk that joke

Find me another loose head prop who can do this!

With respect to everyone else's opinions, I find it funny how Horan has been singled out. If you think about the WC and analyse the weaknesses in the Irish team- the worst part certainly wasn't the scrum. And the scrums against Clermont two weeks ago for Munster were formidable - and he went on to score a try that evening.

The world cup wasn't great for him, alot of school boys errors and knock ons - many as a result of poor passes if you go back and watch. I mean think of the nightmare world cup O'Gara, Stringer, Hickie etc had.As regards his discipline it's an area that needs work, but those who actually play rugby will tell you that props, generally, are involved in more scuffles.

People can come out and criticise Horan - but who would they replace him with? He is the best option that Ireland and Munster have - without doubt.

I agree that's quite an unusual talent and it has its uses one in a blue moon, but while I would be hard put to find another prop who can show that turn of speed, I can name plenty who'll will scrummage Horan off the park on any given match day. It's a nice party piece but it ain't his bread and butter...

As regards props and discipline, Horan lacks that essential element which I describe as 'cuteness'. Look at Bristol's Ronnie Regan, St. Keith of Wood, blessed be his name, castrogiovanni, Ibanez, Oz du randt, Sean Fitzpatrick in his pomp, all superb scrummagers/players/ leaders and total pains in the hole for an opposition team.

Just look at Ronnie Reagan's recent gilt-edged performance against Toulouse; now that's what a prop should be doing, getting stuck in the down and dirty, obfuscating, annoying, antagonising and shoving the opposition all over the park, 75% of the time illegally and rarely getting pinged for it...Prancing about like an expensive show-pony is all well and good but at the end of the day, as a prop, if you aint doing the job in the scrum, you aint doing your job...

QFT. Plenty of wingers out there to finish off tries, let the props worry about forward play.
