stylus refills? tweezers? I'm hugely confused.

for €50 you cant go wrong. A comparable sized 'brand name' tablet would be €300+ I'd say

For €50? Worth the risk. Might be ****e. But sure what're gonna get for that amount of squilla these days.

Certainly looks technically pretty good from the specs. Bit low-priced though which makes me suspicious. Been a while since I went shopping for tablets though (graphire) so maybe they're cheaper nowadays.

OTOH, if it turns out to be a complete waste of space, you've only dropped 50 euros on it.

And you can bring it back in 30 days and you'll have full 12 months warranty. I'll go shopping on Sunday :-)

Looks grand for the bucks all the same. You can always bring it back if its crap. I have a Trust tablet and its dead handy i have to say.

I bought one the last time they were out. For €50.00 you can't go wrong. Just tweak the options as the recommended settings are a bit rough.

For the uninitiated, what are the advantages of a tablet?

That's a nice feature. You can place an A4 piece of paper underneath the pad for tracing purposes.

Gonna have to get myself one of these. Going out Saturday night though. Hopefully they will still be there by the time I get up :)

I find that mine gives me much more precise control in photoshop... Other than that I like to use it if I'm processing alot of photos because using the pen is alot less straining than using a mouse/trackpad (for me anyway)

Yes. They only stock limited items of the good stuff.

    It's probably a rebadged Aiptek

Might see if I can get one myself. It's cheap enough to buy and not use 24/7 anyway :)

One of my Creative Photography Students thinks it's an Aiptek HyperPen 12000U, or later Aiptek model, for which there are MAC drivers at :

    This relates to my question...
Is it likely to be Mac compatible even if it's not this model?
If it's the above mentioned Aiptek rebadged then it gets some awful reviews.

I have a Mac Book Pro 17in. I'll let you know on Sunday :):)

It most likely is. That's what the last one was. I have one of the last ones in front of me and use it the odd time - it's no Wacom, but it is decent, bai.

re: Mac OS support - they usually have drivers/.app's for their tablets for MAC OS, and they seem to constantly the Windows drivers frequently... it will most likely be supported but not guaranteed. Failing that, there may be a workaround. Worse case scenario: easily flog it and recoup most of the money.

Thanks for reminding me: I bought one there about two years back and only used it a half dozen times. It worked fine, and I was getting the hang of it, but I kinda fell out of the habit and had forgotten about it.

not sure if you are aware but Wacom have released a range of low price tablets recently (Bamboo range) - while they are smaller in size than the A4 listed here you can pick the basic model up for around 60 - 70 euros...and the reviews have all been positive even for use in CS3. For those that are interested there is one product in the range that includes full version of elements for a little more...given the option I would personally stick to Wacom....best tablets on the market.

Dabs.ie are currently selling them here for those interested.

    I've got it!
Well, I shouldn't mention that I was there on Sunday at nine and they open at eleven...
However being one of the first in Newlands Cross Aldi, there were 4 people in front of me at the till with tablets :-)
I've just connected it to my laptop few moments ago and I am amazed. Sorry for such stupid questions, but I think I will need some help for finding keyboard shortcuts for creating:
    new layer - Levels
new layer - Hue / Saturation
    new layer - Curves
    new layer - Colour Balance

If you know them, please, let me know.

By the way - I've recently realized how much do I scroll my mouse. Tablet is really different!

LOL, my son was there [Newlands Cross] at 10:55 to pick one of the tablets and HDD's for me as my crimbo pressie, so he was obviously one of those on the queue paying for them.

That particular store is handy no only location wise for me but also as it's not well known locally that it has reopened since it was razed by fire. Se epic below.

BTW, they only had 4 of the pc's, 20 hdd and 24 tablets available for sale.

Recently got a Wacom Bamboo. I can't emphasise how amazing the use of a graphics tablet is. Sure, it takes a week or maybe two to get used to using a pen & tablet, but it's far more natural, faster, and more useful. Bought mine for graphic design, as I've only begun photography, but its use for plotting points and altering curves is fantastic. The bamboo coast me about €109 in Peats.

I wanted one of those Aldi tablets so much! I was too sick to go and get one Sunday though and there are none left now. I was looking on Dabs for reasonable priced alternatives. Is this likely to be any good for drawing/photoshopping?

Looks to me like it's not a patch on the Aldi one. Anyone wanting to donate their Sunday Aldi purchase to a worthy cause please PM me

    What about this one?

    http://www.peats.com/cgi-bin/catalog.cgi?view_product=1&id=9290

Seems ok and only €59... Anybody have an opinion on this?
