Recommend me a flashgun

I'm using a Canon EOS 400D, can somone recommend me a good flashgun that isn't going to break the bank but will do the job?

I use the 430ex and I like it... Get it from eBay though... shop prices are double at least.

I have a 430ex and a 580 exII and find the features and power and battery life all better with the 580exII. Got it on Ebay for half the Irish price

430ex is a very good flash. I have the 580ex and find it great. Of course, the new 580ex II is better, but I don't have that much need for a flash.

I can recommend the seller - I recenlty got my 400D from them with no hassle at all.

Having bought the camera, finds were low and I didn't have the cash to spend on a Canon flash - I did find a Soligor flashgun that's compatible for €99though. They stock them in Hall's on Talbot St. Here's the link:

I haven't had it long, but I've used it a fair bit, find it powerful enough for any situation and the recycle time is pretty good too. The only downside that gets me is that although the head tilts 90 degrees upwards, there is no horizontal swivel.

Its not crazy money but its my first flashgun so I'll see how things pan out with it,

Good choice. Get yourself a Sto-Fen and an off-shoe cord, and you'll be all set!
