Is this gonna be on the Sky EPG does anyone know??

Also, is the test showing anything? (is it worth tuning in)

    Channel 435 I believe.

No longer free to air. Now free to View. Hopefully this will change tomorrow at launch. It would not make sence for a free channel to be non viewable on the new freesat platform.

Just started on the "test channel" on Sky, no sign of it on the EPG yet. Not in love with the screen layout, but it's a bit early to be judging yet.

Turned on 435 and it is asking for a viewing card.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 28,128 ✭✭✭✭Mossy Monk

It hasn't been included on the Irish EPG. But it is on the UK EPG. Any reason for this?

why would they test encryption if they did not intend using it?

I could also ask the Question Why would they test free to air if they did not intend being free to air?
Why turn off the encryption on Monday last?

its still saying insert viewing card. does that mean it is ftv only and not fta? anyway around this if you do not have a card?(should say legal way sorry)

You don't test "free to air" you test the transponder and all the ancillary transmission lines, you then test encryption if you intend using it.(its wasting time otherwise) I'd love it to be free to air but encryption is rarely turned off in the short term. Who said encryption was turned off last Monday all the reports I've seen say it has been FTA from the start of transmission.

Well then you were looking at the wrong reports. It was FTV up to Monday. Then FTA until yesterday. My sky digibox with FTV card could always receive test. My PACE 810 HD Receiver could only receive it from Monday through to Yesterday afternoon.

It seems setanta themselves are confused between FTA and FTV from talking to them. I'm still none the wiser as to what their long term intentions are

I've just turned it on and the interview with Robbie Keane has been going for about 5 minutes. SSN usually just show small clips of those kind of interviews so that's the first difference.

At first glance the screen looks too full. The 2 tickers at the bottom are pretty much the same colour with one moving faster than the other.

  • Subscribers Posts: 16,714 ✭✭✭✭copacetic

agreed, it is giving me a headache. vidi printer style thing at top, tables constantly changing on the left, fast ticker with current scores on bottom above a slow ticker with upcoming fixtures. and everything in black and yellow.

    way too much imo..

The presenters aren't exactly world class either, lol.

Aye - pesky not on free to Air /freesat!
I tuned it in when it was running the rolling test transmission - and viewable .
But is blanked out now - still see its EPG
perhaps they are just aiming at the sky-market...

Setanta Sports has signed up its one millionth premium subscriber ahead of schedule, it was announced today.

The sports broadcaster had planned on signing up 1 million premium customers in the UK and Ireland during its first season of Barclays Premier League coverage. The milestone has been reached less than four months into the season.

Am I right in saying that Setanta News is English based?? I watched for like minutes, and the league things scrolling on left were Premiership down to Blue Square things, no Eircom League or Irish League at all... For an Irish company they've gone very English, very quickly...

Probably down to their direct competition with Sky. And of course UK is a considerably bigger market to aim at. I read somewhere that Virgin Media (UK cableco) had some part to play in the launch of Setanta Sports News, due to them losing Sky Sports News.

That said, it wouldn't be a big job to add the Irish leagues also. It's not like they don't have enough onscreen banners and info blocks!

The Eircom League is finished I thought.

Working here on an expired Irish sub card. But to be honest, it's a pile of cr@p, and I didn't even bother pulling out the card to see if it would work without it.
