Just had a quick look on vodafone pay-as-u-go and they state that they charge per minute, is this the norm for other mobile networks

    Cheers

Generally rates are given per minute but billed per second. (unless otherwise stated, bla bla bla, e.g. premium numbers, etc)
This is certainly the case with Meteor and O2.

    Both plans include:
    Text messages for 11c
    Free voicemail
Up to €80 free credit when you register online

    The details
Calls are charged per minute, with a minimum charge of 3c for all connected calls.
All public holidays are charged as off peak time. Please note that Good Friday is not a public holiday.
