I would like to upgrade the memory in a 2004 iBook G4. Crucial.com tell me that there is only one slot and is "256MB non-removable". Does this mean I cannot replace the existing RAM chip?

you have one built in and one free slot more here on what the max you can get is.

Was this something along the lines of what Crucial said?

    # Maximum Memory: 1280MB
    # USB Support: 2.x Compliant
    # Standard Memory: 256MB non-removable
    # Slots: 1 (1 bank of 1)

If so it meant that the 256MB is fixed in the iBook but is not part of the One RAM slot that you have available. You can put up to 1GB extra in it according to the iBook processor speed that I guessed you may have had, (Apple iBook (G4 1.33GHz))

Edit: Sorry decob. Didn't see your reply there.

Yes, thanks, it was the phrase non-removable that put me off. The links provided here are clearer. Thanks for the help.
