New Card Club - Crumlin - Thoughts and Ideas Thread

Many of you will be familiar with the star bingo building in Crumlin. There is a new Casino with a card room opening there on the 14th December.

Nick (Vegas Nights) and myself will be taking the lease out on the Poker but will have no dealings with the gaming (i.e. black jack and roulette). We are hoping to be open from Friday 14th December and will only open Friday to Sunday.

We will be Guarantying €10,000 on our opening night and will probably keep the €10,000 Guaranteed up for a further 3 weeks. The buy in will be €100 & €10 with one rebuy or top up at €50.

We were thinking that of changing the Friday night game to €100 FO after the four weeks. Either Saturday or Sunday will have a free role with either €10 or €20 rebuys (all money going towards tickets) for our monthly game which will be held on a Saturday (similar structure to the game I was running in the Red Cow).

Just looking for feedback regarding games players would like to play.

Also we have the option of leasing a 2nd room in the building which we were thinking about turning into either a high stacks room or a players lounge. What are your thoughts on this ? If we open it as players lounge what would you like in this room?
    Chess boards
    Library
    TV’s for watching sports
    Comfortable seating (Obviously)
    Anything else?

Good stuff i hope it works well and i hope to support but please dont turn anything into a players lounge. The less players lounging around or being able to do much else than play poker the better. No fruit machines either.

If you are going to have a players lounge, It could be a good idea to have fooseball table and other such things and then charge rake on players prop bets....

Best of luck with this JP, really hope it works well.....I think the high stakes room sounds like the best option instead of a players lounge (just my two cents).

ah what with your retirment from the game you would say that a players lounge is not needed.:D

by high stakes I presume we're talking 2/5?

can't see there being a market for 5/10 + live gamnes, or if there is the people playing it won't be bankrolled for it.

playstation / pro-evo... chess... an up to date website (really, how difficult would it be for a card club to post results... see the eglington, galway website!) ... here's a novel idea.... €0.25/€0.50 cash game?? or 50c/50c omaha!!?!??! get in touch with the poker socs to run qualifiers for the 100 game. i'll play...but only cos i miss nick! im pretty sick of you at this stage jp! :p

oh... and good luck with this!!

Car parking is something that Nick and myself have discussed as the car park is fairly small and will more than likely be full be the time people arrive to play poker due to the bingo which starts at 5ish.

Looks like we will be getting valets who will bring your card to the front door for you.

I was more thinking along the lines of €200+ Sng's but also cash 3/6 weekly and monthly 5/10

    good luck with this guys.

be careful with too big of a game when starting. when the dundalk casino opened there were many donks winning big, and then going broke and killing the game 5months in. Id rec avoiding the large games, as with ego's it'l run for a few months or weeks, but cant be sustainable and you'l kill the game IMO. also from a business point of view, a sustainable game = more rake.

Even the large casinos already established struggle to hold the large games (note how many times a big no-limit game is pushed and unsuccesful)

id like a pool table, with some nice leather couches and a bita sky sports news

    JP

The problem I think your going to face is that if you have a Pool table or playstations etc your going to have a serious number of local toerags (I used live on Cashel Road) who will hang around the place morning noon and night.

It'll be very hard to stop them as they will all join the casino but will just wreck it and take over, not to mention nick everything.

You might want to make some sort of exclusivity to the players lounge, I dont know how you'll do this without pi$$ing people off but I fear that unless you put some measures in place the area will be a disaster.

Best of luck with your new venture JP. Keep it simple would be my advice. As long as people can get a game, the rakes not too high and they have a competent dealer then theyre usually content. Ive no doubt your club will fill this criterea.

    Thanks for all the feedback.

Here's an idea, tell me what you think.

Thinking about maybe running a 2nd Tournament at 10pm each night for €10, 1500 chips, winner take all.

just seeing this now, JP/Nick good luck with it, hope all goes well - just a taught how about a 'massage room' ;)

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 3,860 ✭✭✭ditpoker

winner take all tournaments such. if i was knocked out looking for a second game i'd play a €5 1 chip game. blinds are 1chip-2chip, going up every 10 mins. or a €10 euro 1500 stack top 3 paid tourny.

or even a "mEssage room" so people can check boards while playing!? :p

    Nice idea JP.
I agree the main drawback you'll have to contend with is the area and the local skangers who hang around there.
