I am starting to get to grips with FIFA 08. But it does not seem to be forthcoming with providing handy tips etc....

Can anyone please point me in the right direction regarding the following:

    1. Scoring from a free kick
    2. Scoring from a corner
    3. Scoring from a cross
    4. Intercepting passes
    5. Any other useful tips?

    Many thanks!

Quite difficult, normally only done with Ronaldo/Ronaldinho/Juninho (Lyon). Best advice I could give, hold the LB button while kicking to keep trajectory down. Also, push into 11 o'clock or 1 o'clock on the RS to do top-spin (keeps low). Need to get the exact combination of these, but the end result will be a nice low hard free kick with plenty of spin that just clears the wall.

    2. Scoring from a corner
I found that holding LB and pushing forward on the RS while talking the corner, does a dipping cross the penalty spot, then its all about timing. Try placing it at head height on the corner of the 6-yard box, then B (shoot) into the far corner.

See above. Remember, you can guide the crosses while the power is building up. Also, use the LB and triple-B (tap three times) for low hard pin point accurate crosses. Also, cross early, dont wait until you get right up to the end line, cos when you think about it, as you advance, defenders retreat and pick up good positions.

    4. Intercepting passes
Anticipate them, simple as. The computer passes certain ways. Just get yourself anywhere close to the pass, and the computer takes over, sticks a leg in and you're away on a break.

    * Dont be afraid to pass back to go forward.
    * Pass constantly, 1-touch passes because a) it conserves energy and b) it causes the other team to lose energy chasing the ball around
    * Play one two's around the box, very handy for getting the ball in tight spaces. Use LB + B, then B to get the ball back.
    * Shoot from everywhere around the box, hold the LT button to keep the trajectory low for snapshots.
    * General team management - chemistry is EXTREMELY important. Dont take off Tevez and put on Saha just cos he's your fave player. Play with 3 up front to increase chemistry.
    * Use the off-side trap sparingly. Its very effective when used properly. Particularily effective in 5v5 online.

HTH, any other questions, just shout!

He gave instructions for the xbox (and b should have been a i think but depends on configuration)

    In his case,
LB = L1/L2 which ever one is used for lobbing the keeper/changing player
RS is the Right Stick but I think he meant Left stick
B on the xbox is shoot but I think he meant a for the one two pass, and x for a cross
LT is left trigger = L1/L2 whichever is used for the tricks

The buttons can all depend on your configuration so ill explain my method by say shoot button etc

For free kicks I have 3 methods.
a)Quick short pass to one of my players and shoot with him
b)A slow curling free kick: Holding the Finesse button(R1/R2), with a right footed free kick taker, aim a bit to the right where you want the ball to go. press the shoot button, while holding down the shoot button push the left stick to the left and let go of the shoot button while still aiming to the left, making sure not to have the power above halfway, of course power depends on the distance but not much power is needed here, about 1/4 to 1/3
c)Fast more direct screamer: Hold down the lob button, aim towards 11 o'clock with the Left stick, press the shoot button while holding the left stick at 11 and the lob button, bring the power to half way, let go of the shoot button.

For crosses, remember as your running down the wing, press the lob button(L1/L2) to tell someone to make a run, and either do a normal cross or double/tripple tap the cross button for a low cross.
As for the timing of the header I still suck at, ive scored a good few, but way too many end up in the stand.

Sorry to drag this thread up but ...

How do I gain control of a player once I pass to him?

More often than not I will pass the ball and the player will stand there like a tool until the ball gets to him.
Invariably an opponent will nip in and get the ball as they're just standing there like a tool.

    Cheers
