item 066/0952, price 271 includes amp etc- anyone got any feedback on this? should the low price put me off? not for me- for my gf-wants a gibson les paul- this seems way out of line price wise with les paul so should i steer clear? shes not a beginner. should i just splash out on a good one? if so can anybody recommend? preferably not something too expensive- maybe 600 at max...

    This the one?

    http://www.gibson.com/Products/GBME/Epoch/

Given that they show a 10 year old playing it I wouldn't imagine it's much use...

Amazon.com are selling it for $99.00 without the amp
    http://www.amazon.com/GBME-Epoch-Electric-Guitar-Pack/dp/B000BV1YOE

GBME is appreantly Gibson-Baldwin Music Education, think it's aimed at absolute beginners in the classrooms or something, wouldn't think it'd suit your needs so

It's a Gibson alright, in a kind of "Made by Gibson" way... there's Epoch, Maestro and another couple of brands those GBME chaps do

    I'm glad you asked :)

http://www.thomann.de/ie/gibson_les_paul_junior_vsb.htm < Yummy... if I had the cash right now...

Suppose you can't really go wrong with an Epiphone if you're on a budget, http://www.thomann.de/ie/epiphone_lp_standard_plus_tb.htm

    Anyone played the Yamaha ones?
    http://www.thomann.de/ie/yamaha_aes420_bl_egitarre.htm
That one looks fugly but I'm sure there's some nicer looking ones. yargle, if you were looking for a strat on a budget the first thing anyone here would say to you would be Yamaha Pacifica. I imagine their Les Pauls are in or around the same quality for the price.

If you could stretch it slightly out over the 600euro mark then I'd personally go for the Les Paul Jr but without any indication of what type of music she plays can't really help further than that.

But if you really love her then: http://www.thomann.de/ie/gibson_les_paul_1959_reissue_aged_wc.htm

    ;)

Surely she doesn't mean an ACTUAL Gibson LP?

hehe despite owning a Gibson USA i only knew of epiphone/orville as other brands of GBME.

*Edit* if i was inclined that way and had a boyfriend who bought me a Les paul junior for christmas i'd seriously do anything for him.

if that yamaha plays as good as a pacifica (their strat copy) then that les paul copy would be a nice little guitar.

There seems to be a good few of them... Maestro, Epoch, Signature, Spirit, Genre

Judging from the picture on that GBME page yargle's girlfriend might have been a little disappointed Christmas day when she goes to play her guitar and finds it's shrunk! :)

Also, agreed Cremo, I'd do serious things for my other half if they bought me that Les Paul Jr... SERIOUS things...

(although I may just have to buy one for myself... and then do serious things with it...)

Hey, Waltons may have one but it'll be a LOT more expensive from Waltons that on Thomann. Thomann have it marked down over €300. I'd imagine it'd be €1000+ in any shop in Dublin.

Your best bet is to find someone with a credit card that'd order it for you as you're not going to beat an online price in store ANYWHERE in Dublin (unless you go looking second hand).

The Les Paul Jr is a great guitar, but I don't know whether it'd suit your ladyfriend or not. It's only got the one pickup (a P90, yum) which may not appeal to her. Then again she may love the thing... You might be better off dropping some hints and trying to get out of her what type of guitar she really wants (and whether a LP Jr would be right for her).

Anyway, best bet is to buy online. I know those 3V vouchers work but not sure if you can get them up to €660-odd...

Bear in mind aswell that shipping on Thomann is free for orders over €199. If ordering online you'd want to get going sharpish though if it's for Christmas.

Have you any mates that play guitar (or preferably any of her mates)? You should bring one of them into Waltons, Music Maker, Musician Inc etc and get them to try out a few guitars with you, if you find one that they like or that your girlfriend would like then see if you can beat that price online if you can find someone who'll let you buy on their credit card and then give them the cash to pay it off straight away

this reverend would be perfect, much lighter than a gibson LP

    roundhouse_hb_fm_bburst_lg.jpg

785 dollars list price, shop around you'd get it cheaper than that plus the currency conversion is great at the moment!

i have an epiphone lp standard, great with overdrive, crap when played clean. I really like the lp, but the epie ones are overpriced.

I wouldn't really recommend buying a guitar as a surprise, especially if you have no experience yourself. Choosing a guitar is totally subjective. What one person likes, another may hate. Why not take your girlfriend to a guitar shop and offer to buy her something that she actually wants rather than taking a big risk on something she might not enjoy playing...?

ok guys i've been looking at the epiphone lp studio http://waltons.ie/waltonsshop/product_info.php?cPath=60_65&products_id=3370
anybody have any opinions? is it a good model? are epiphones in general good quality and what's the sound like? would this come recommended?

I've played a couple in the store, quite nice. I'm lining up to get the studio (white w/gold hardware) in the near future.

    .... edit...

Nevermind, I read through the thread and forgot that the G/F specifically wants a LP.

Do you know what colour she wants? What does she currently play? Does she have an amp?

can't remember what she has at the moment, think its just an encore or something, yes she's amp, tho it's on its last legs. her current electric and her acoustic are black, but she's on a buzz for a white lp since seeing the manics last week...goddamn beyotch...
