Does anyone know what kind of percentages/terms are used in a normal staking agreement?

some do 50/50 of winnings - so for example

if you buy someone into a €1000 FO and they come 5th for €2500 - u'd give them €750

70/30 - 60/40 seems to be the average from what I've read on 2+2 anyway.

MTT online is 70/30 with unknowns

I would never stake an unknown. Depends if its a tournament or real poker

This came about after ian had a bad 'downswing' and needs to be staked to play some $1/$2 NL. I said I would stake him(stupid i know, but he's a mate so I need to show some faith) for 3k at 50/50 on profits/rb with an option of restaking when/if he loses the orig stake. The stake will last 20k hands if he accepts.

LOL ;) i think staking in tournaments is -ev and really need to catch the player in a purple patch to do well off it. Ive done enough of it (staking others and being staked myself) to know it's hit n miss. As for cash games ive no idea, but if you're friends you wont rip him off ;)

Wow that's pretty sound of you Reggie considering your own precarious financial situation. Wise to put all your eggs in the one basket?

He must have come to you after i turned him away. Desperate times indeed...

Sorry I should have clarified it's for cash games.

50/50 with make up is standard deal, but if someone is in a bad position financially you could def negotiate better on your end

I would def not recommend staking anyone you dont know is a great player and you trust implicitly, I know alot of people who have been burned badly in staking deals by shady people - and the obvious problem is anybody you know to be a great player wont need the steak

well reggie is a little stuck right now and asked if i could help him out til he gets back on his feet. So with Christmass coming and all I said i'd help him get out of the hole.

I've staked 2 people recently. I think I was a bit naive in the terms I agreed to I was just getting 40% plus 40% of rakeback, but on the positive side it was to last for a minimum of 2 months or 40k hands whichever came last. As it turned out the first deal lasted over 3 months and I made a very tasty profit on it. The other one who happened to me a guy I trust implicitly went El Busto. Between the 2 stakes I made about $2.5k.

I would do it again but I'd examine more closely the deal to make sure it is fair to both parties. Also like another poster said I would never stake someone for an mtt, -EV for sure. I've done that before a few times too but never again, way too much variance.
