Referring to the charter and keeping in mind the T4BB show, Joe Duffy and the News of the world today--
    From the Charter--
"* In relation to airsoft; Do not use terms such as Airgun, Pellet gun or anything which refers to a firearm. They are not the same thing. Repeat offense will result in a temporary ban. Continued use may result in longer bans or outright permanent bans."

Here are some of the names chosen by posters on this board-

My own id is the same as a maker of binoculars and scopes so it is also marginal.

that would mean a permanent ban for me, Gatling is a common surname

    OP ... whats your point?

Perhaps he should have put some of these in his post: :D:D:D

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,258 ✭✭✭Cheeky monkey

It's just a name it doesn't really mean anything I doubt many people put a huge amount of thought into choosing their name

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 7,182 ✭✭✭Genghiz Cohen

Maybe people chose their name THEN got into airsoft.....

    Weapon, gun, bullet & terrorist!!!!

I know i didn't. I needed a name and spotted the (cough)tape (VHS,i was young and dumb:D.)so used that,my first choice (OddBall) was already taken.I don't actually walk around saying;"I AM THE LAW" or drive a bigass bike(i dress as RoboCop),just as i assume Gatling doesn't go about dressed as Jesse Ventura with a cannon in his hands shouting,"I don't have time to bleed."(at least i don't think he does;) ).

My Handle goes back 10 years where I got it in work from bringing
some empty shells into work to show some interested workmates and
    having a love for guns.

I also fire Real steel and posted on the shooting board before I ever
    heard of airsoft.

It was my handle well before I started posting on the Airsoft Board
or shooting board. I am also into trad goth music from the 80's and
still used the Handle bullets even though it has nothing to do with music.

i think the charter means more about comments not names ie: "just bought a new airgun" should read "just bought a new airsoft gun"

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 1,169 ✭✭✭Alvin T. Grey

Used to write comedy. Maybe I will again someday. Alvin was a charactor I came up with. I use it because it's guarenteed not to be already taken. And TBH, I can't be arsed coming up with another one.

For some reason people don't like being called Miscreant so it is almost never taken. I use it as an online gaming handle too.

I've been using Fiach (Raven) for years now on many a forum and in a lot of games. Goes back to my flightsim days.

That's it yeah. I didn't write that piece into the charter with handles in mind. (Never even considered it to be honest)
You can't regulate them specifically, as boards.ie has over 1000 other forums. So like bullets said, their username could relate to another one. As he for example posts over in shooting.

Anyway, I'm going to edit out those usernames for obvious reasons. Seeing as this thread has gone the way of "discuss your handle", lets keep it at that.

Middenface McNulty would have been a good one actually. Although you would have had to type in an extremely illegible headache inducing Scottish accent. Which would have gotten old very fast. :D

Dex comes from Dexter which has always been my nickname. Everyone just started calling me Dex in college. Noone actually uses my real name anymore, even my girlfriend calls me Dex and my mum has even been known to call me it when I'm home. The naked part comes from the time I streaked down Tullow St in Carlow on a skateboard during Rag Week in IT Carlow.

    Ah treasured memories

When i was a wee nipper I read a book called Created: The Destroyer.

The protagonist was supposedly the reincarnation of a Hindu god called Shiva.
When I first went online with IOL way back 12 or more years ago I used that as my nickname, and I've been using it ever since.

Actually...I found this recently - my own little piece of Internet fame. Reading that made me smile...I used to stay up till all hours of the morning playing Quake with some of the guys who set up boards.ie, although I drifted away from the scene awhile before Boards came along.

Ahhh...the old days. I remember meeting Gandalf at one of the first Irish mega-LAN parties in Temple Bar.

There's a few nippers around these parts who are still smarting from getting their @rses handed back to them on a plate by the ZeDers, so I wouldn't worry too much about us 'feeling too old' ;)

(in 1997... I was 25 and already reformed from my previous life of debauchery :p)

Jaysus, I remember lan quake back in those days but I never went online with it. Clearly I missed out. I still have my TInet startup floppy discs at home that I got with the express intention of using the online quake features but I never did get around to it. I miss quake.

Im going WAY off topic here but Sorry I cant resist :(:rolleyes::):D

    Memories galore!!!!

I played one of the dooms with dial up and a 9600bps modem with a buddy down the street. Also Command and Conquer via dial up having to watch every minute you were on the phone line and then having your mother pick up the phone down stairs to make a call and have the connection terminated.

Games came on 5.25 inch discs and 3.5 inch ones were precious
and if you had a 720kb one you could punch a hole on one side of the
plastic and format it as a 1.44MB (Hacking F19 stealth fighter)

Downloading an A4 colour pic of Wendy James from Transvision Vamp
    taking over half an hour!!!!!

Waiting on Porn pics to down load bit by bit a line at a time.....
    and then failing!!!

Also back in the day where everything was posted in plain text.
and in no more than 80 characters wide.

    ASCII art.

Typing ATDT and the telephone number and sometimes
having someone answer a phone instead of connecting to a POP.

Here in Limerick having to connect to UL as it was the only POP.

NO graphical interfaces/GUI's or Browsers like Mosaic they came later
    only a command tool!!!!!

    Rot13 for rude words.

    Acronyms as characters were precious

The joy of having ONLY people that knew something about computers
being on the web and being able to freely access information without
having to pay for it or getting spammed.

Communicating with Americans and them being astonished that
there are people actually on the Internet outside of the USA.

Instead of where are you from getting asked what state are you from syndrome (and they still have not learned)
