One of the advantages of the winter evenings is the ability to take low light shots at a civilised hour. Here is one of Hook Head lighthouse in County Wexford taken around 5pm yesterday. Canon 5D, Sigma 70-200 f/2.8, 15 seconds @ f/11. A car passed by leaving a red streak due to the long exposure.

I love that, on one hand the rear light trail is annoying on the other its a feature in itself. :)

My only (very small) grumble is that the light house is too central.

    Mike.

    That's fantastic!

Is that mist coming off the sea, or is it an effect of the long exposure?

    Great shot, well done.

Nice job, spooky sea, I'd crop a little off the left close to the cottages.

Very good. I can imagine cropping a little of the sea at the bottom ;-)

Nice shot except for the light trail, I thought it was a horizon straightening device!! :)

Very nice! Love the way the sea came out . Didn't know what the red line was at first glance though.

very nice pic but damn that car tail light!

i like it loads - just wonder if there is too much sea in it? The slow shutter has given a wonderful effect on the sea and the lights. The tail light is kinda interesting but probably doesn't add to the image (at least in the right kinda way). Cheers.

nice pic - if you had the camera setup slightly to the right you would have 'moved' everything to the left a little taking away the space to the left of the houses that IMO isnt interesting and also brought into view the edge of the coastline which may have improved the overall composition.

Lovely shot carrigman - well done!

I spend a lot of time fishing there over the summer months but never gotten around to photographing the lighthouse, I think the light trail adds to it, personally I would have cropped out a bit of the sea in the foreground, but i would have been happy either way!

Lovely shot Carrigman, The mist coming from the sea pushing up against the rocks and the star like light shining from the lighthouse is perfect.

Very cool. Do you have any additional filtering on the lens other than (presumably) a UV?

I love it, don't change a damn thing!

Ah it's grand, could do with a dog in frame though...

I really like it but here's a mad idea:
Crop off everything above and including the red line leaving just the rock and the sea.
Gives you a very primordial looking sea scape with the cool surface reflections you've got.

Great shot, love the texture of the sea and I actually like the red streak.

Thanks for all the feedback folks. There was nothing on the lens other than the UV filter which I use for protection only.

For what it's worth, I've posted a slightly different version - without the red streak - here:
