    Hi All

Booked flights to NYC with clubtravel.ie (also goforless.ie i think).
The flight is with Aer Lingus to Amsterdam and onwards to NYC with KLM. I received the e-tickets in the post today. My name is correct but my partners surname is swapped with the firstname.

i.e. Smith Ann instead of Ann Smith. Mine is ok.

I understand that the only ckeckin will be in Dublin Airport at the Aer Lingus desk. Do you think that they will have any problems with this?

    Thanks

Contact whoever you booked the tickets with and get it changed ASAP. Only a fool would turn up for check-in with an error like that and hope to get away with it.

If the airline spot it they may well refuse to take you as is and as the ticket is booked through a third party the airline may not change it themselves. At that stage it would be a new ticket or no travel.

Even if you get on the aircraft, US immigration may spot the error and take issue with it and they are not exactly the most understanding people.

Get if rectified. Better safe then sorry, especially when travelling to the US :)

Had the same thing happen with me..
When I tried to check in they could not find me on the system.
When I went to the ticketing desk, they rectified the problem straight
away and all was well :-)

I called the travel agents today. They said that normally someone checks that the first & surnames are the correct way around before issuing the tickets and that in my case somebody saw that the 1st travellers name was the correct way around and assumed that so was the second traveller's name.
There is a 100% canx fee and they do not seem to think that KLM will allow a name change on this ticket. Even if they do allow a name change, I will have to pay a 100euro admin fee. Tomorrow i'll find out if I'll be allowed to fork out the 100 bucks for the change.

In the meantime I called Aer Lingus (after all, they'll be checking me in). They said that there would be no problem at all with the first and surnames being swapped.
Not really sure what to do now??

Id be surprised if you were refused boarding because of a simple error like that! Shame your name isn't Robert Roberts.....

I had put this to them and they said that it's really my fault because I entered it incorrectly in the web booking page. ( Although of course as far as I was aware, I had in fact entered it correctly).

I've since called Aer Lingus again, talked to another operator and they too said that I should have no problem at all with any leg of the flight. They say that once you check-in in Dublin, they give you the ok for all legs of the flight.
I've also since called KLM, who still seem to maintain that the ticket must much the name as exactly on the passport.

Then there's the travel agents, who may or may not be able to change the name on the ticket for me. I wonder who really has the final say in this? Would the travel agents be the one's to trust here? They did seem to miss the fact that the second name was mixed and now they are trying to make another 100euros from me with this name change. (if they can do it at all)

Also the US immigration, I understand that they collect not only passport info but also details of my itinerary. Altough, as a previous poster has said, they had no problems with entry to the US

Aer Lingus, at the end of the day are the monkey to the organ grinder here :)

After they ship you to Amsterdam, it's not their problem and KLM's rules apply. Plus all you need is to get one particularily picky KLM staff member or immigration officer in NY to start your trip off badly. In the unlikely event of you be rejected at point of entry, it's KLM's responsibility to ship you back and they can be fined if I recall correctly. This is why KLM could, theoretically deny you boarding at Amsterdam.

It's completely possible your trip may be problem free - but is it worth risking it?

From reading the New York thread, I understand that the immigration is done in Dublin before I depart.
I've called Aer Lingus again, and once again they have assured me that I will be fine on all legs of the flight.

Not in your case. You're flying to Amsterdam from Dublin, not New York.

Only if you're flying direct from Dublin to US does the US immigration get done in Dublin!

As Santa Claus said, it doesn't apply in your case.

Plus see my note about Aer Lingus, monkeys and organ grinders ;)
