    Hey Folks,

I have firmware 3.40 OE-A on my PSP. I don't use any of the 'delights' that having a homebrew firmware brings and I want to update to the latest official Sony firmware.
I'm having a problem though, when I download the latest firmware and try to run it says 'The game could not be started. (DADADADA)'.

Does anyone have any idea what's going on and how I can update the firmware?

Just go back to 1.5 and then update to whatever.

There is one of the custom firmwares that you can not upgrade from, even by downgrading as some of the firmware gets left behind. Not sure what version or if that was fixed but i remember reading about it when i was updating. I would say it was a later version though.

Hmmmnnnnnnnnnnn........ DAMN! Ongarite (he's everywhere these days and fair play to him ultra-helpful) sent me a PM with detailed instructions on how to solve my problem. I didn't get it to work for me, but it's entirely likely I didn't do it right. I'll have another crack at it when I get home and I'll let ye know how I got on.

    Morning eo980,
Can you tell me how far you got on the last step for remote play and I'll see if some step was missed.

    Hey Man,

I followed all the steps but I think my problem was installing the files. I set them to install to the Pro Duo card but I was probably supposed to have the PSP connected by USB........... right?!

OK now I see. You connect PSP to PC using USB so you can write the files to flash0 on built in PSP memory not MS.
When in recovery menu, go to advanced and toggle flash0. Copy premo_plugin.prx to vsh\module and premo_plugin.rco to vsh\resource. Overwrite files when asked.

You see, I am an idiot! I'll have a stab at this during lunch.
