64-Bit Macbook Pro?

It seems difficult enough to nail this down. I always thought the Intel Core 2 Duo CPU's were 64-bit enabled (EM64T), which is what's inside my Macbook Pro I bought back in April.

Now this seems not to be so - because my XP x64-Edition wouldn't install in a Parallels virtual machine. It said I need 64 bit capable hardware. Parallels says if your machine is 64 bit then it will install a 64 bit OS no problem.

So I'm guessing my macbook pro is actually 32 bit - is that correct?

I won't say this is definitive but my understanding is,

Tiger is 64-bit OS which runs 32-bit apps.
Leopard is 64-bit OS which now also runs 64-bit apps.

So depending on Parallels version etc your system might be seen as 32-bit at the application layer. Don't know if there's a 64-bit Parallels for Mac but it would be a good start if it where to try and host a 64-bit OS

Thats what i understood to be the case, and its why i held off until they upgraded the Mini to C2D.

Parrallels is not yet capable of running 64bit Os. You will need fusion from VMware for that.

I did think it was a bit odd - I'll give Vmware fusion a whirl to be sure (if I can find a demo version that is!)
