I'm getting really frustrated with this game... I've got to the point where you are meant to stand on top of the pillar and press - and 1. so i stand on top of it but every time i do that a screen showing controls comes up, not a blue box thats supposed to! what am i doing wrong?!

You need to press 1 + A i think.
