LG RH178 HDD/DVD recorder DVD problems

I've got an LG RH178 HDD/DVD recorder. It is only 8 months old. The DVD drive has just failed. It is playing CD discs at present, but will not read DVDs. This unit was a replacement sent to me by LG. The previous model (an RH178 bought over a year ago) also had a DVD drive problem. I sent that back to Komplett under warranty & either they or LG managed to loose it, hence the new replacement. Has anyone else had similar problems with this unit?

I've drive problems on an lg dvd recorder ,theres a 755 in the model number.

It won't record onto disc ,it sometimes doesn't read either.:mad:

Does yours play cds OK at the moment?

I never tried ,it's not hooked up at the moment.

I wouldn't touch LG anymore ,they use to be good value and now they charge high end prices.

I hear you. I won't be keen to buy from them again. I wouldn't mind but the rest of the machine is not too bad at all.

I contacted a supplier of spare parts for LG today to be told that a new DVD deck would cost €100 + €34 shipping! This sounds like a 'sod off & buy another one' response.

I did try putting in a DVDRW unit for a PC, but the unit did not recognise it. It does recognise a different (larger) hard disk.

I guess I'm done with LG.....

Seeing as it was Komplett you bought it off have you contacted them?

Not yet. The original warranty ended in October. Not sure if the new unit came with a new waranty. Its worth a try though....
