    Just follow these steps…

    1. Download the free trial version of SnagIt version 7.2.5 here:

    http://s3.amazonaws.com:80/marcliron/SnagIt725.exe

    2. Go to this promotion page, complete your name, country and e-mail address and TechSmith will send you the software key to unlock the program.

    http://www.techsmith.com/snagit/ukdn.asp

    3. Just install the program you downloaded from step 1 above and then enter the software key you receive from TechSmith and you will have a fully working version of SnagIt version 7.2.5 on your PC.

For those that don't know (and it would have been nice to include this in your post, gadgetman), snagit is a screen capture utility. Also, there's an "Essential Free Software" thread stickied at the top of the computers forum that this could have gone in :)

well technically snag-it isn't "free" software, this is a promotion that saves you the ~€25 that snag it normally costs. wonder how long this will last?

    Correct coolmoose:

This is indeed a "pay for software" that has been made available free for a limited period as a promotion & for two reasons.

    1. It is one version behind the latest version.

    2. They probably hope that you might upgrade at a later date? (But you don't ever have to)

It is the fully functional package with no restrictions.

If people don't know what the package is for? then there's a very good chance that they don't need it.

Further more, most users here have already heard of "Google" & know what it's for & how to use it too.

    It's a typical attitude really?

"If it's free there has to something wrong with it!"

There's nothing stopping anyone from going the non promotional route & paying full whack for it, if it eases their pea brain conscience.

oh ya totally understand gadgetman, my comment was aimed at Balfa saying that this should have been posted in Essential Free Software!

as an aside, it's a great little piece of software, been using it since v5.

and agree with the google part too! :)

Of course you understand coolmoose, most normal people would too.

My previous post was aimed in exactly the same direction yours was ;) Maybe he'd like us to go down & install it for him too..

There's a tiny little app I use that does something similar (No installation required) very, very useful to have in the toolbox.

    Check you PM's

    I personally use Jing

I dare anyone to show me a screen capture and record program that is more useful then this one

Failing that I use the freeware version of Gadwin Printscreen

What exactly makes snagit so special anyway that people would pay for it when there are perfectly good free alternatives out there?

This is turning out to be a handy thread?

It got L31mr0d to share Jing with us! (Cheers L31mr0d)

Anyone else got something useful to share?

Nobody suggested that SnagIt was good, bad or indifferent L31mr0d.

It was simply a post to make people who like, or wanted the program, aware that it was available for "No Charge".

I find your posts aimed at me kind of offensive, gadgetman. If you want to help people find software for free without any description of what it does, fair enough, but if you don't like other people adding value to the thread by explaining what it does, that's your problem.

Would you mind cutting out the personal attacks on people who are just trying to help?

tried that snag it to record real player but it doesnt work. When played back it there is only a black screen in the real player and no sound.

What would work to solve the above?

o/t: balfa i think that anybody downloading software will check what it does first anyway, plenty of bb sites i use don't give descriptions for downloads.

secondly, it's not freeware, it's a limited promotion so it would be misleading to place it in the Essential Free Software sticky.

and people get waaay too easily offended on this site to be honest, don't take things to heart so easily! to be honest, if i were gadgetman, i could have just as easily gotten offended by the patronising tone you took in your first post.

    so....back on topic all?
