The Nitelink Comes To Town Every Night For Christmas!

From Thursday 13th, Dublin Bus is extending its Nitelink service to seven nights a week on all 24 routes for the Christmas period. In addition to this, from Thursday 13th to Sunday 23rd December and on New Year’s Eve, all Nitelink routes will operate a full Saturday timetable with most routes running every half an hour until 4.30 a.m.

This Christmas season, Dublin Bus will carry thousands of passengers home safely after hours throughout the Greater Dublin Area to areas as far out as Ashbourne, Dunboyne, Maynooth and Greystones.

In order to meet both the rise in demand for late night transport over the Christmas period and its commitment to Operation Freeflow 2007, Dublin Bus is also enhancing the Nitelink with additional buses. This seven day service runs until Saturday 5th January (excluding Christmas Eve, Christmas Day and New Years Day.)

Since the Nitelink was first introduced in 1991, its popularity has continued to grow, not just at Christmas time but right throughout the year. Commenting on the popularity of the Nitelink, Spokeswoman for Dublin Bus, Clíodhna Ní Fhátharta attributed its success to a constant drive by Dublin Bus to improve the service, and a greater awareness by the general public about the dangers of drink driving: “The Nitelink takes the hassle out of going out and allows people to enjoy all the festivities of the holiday period. The service is a quick, reliable and safe way to get home after a night out without having to break the bank” he added.

Fares for the Nitelink are €4 for most journeys, and €6 for longer trips. Tickets can be purchased from the ticket buses that are based at Nitelink departure points: College Street (Southbound), D’Olier Street (Northbound) and Westmoreland Street (Westbound). Leaflets with full details on the Christmas Nitelink service are available at Dublin Bus Head Office, 59 Upper O’Connell Street, Dublin 1, or online at Nitelink Information.

Dublin Bus carries over 150 million passengers annually and on average 500,000 each day across its 214 routes in the Greater Dublin Area. Between 10th December and 14th January, an estimated 12.9 million passengers will travel on Dublin Bus. The company employs 3,500 staff and is the largest public transport provider in the Greater Dublin Area. Its extensive network, which is serviced through its seven bus depots, provides a range of bus routes including radial, cross-city, peripheral, airport services, Nitelink and sightseeing tours.

Bus Eireann kindly provided extra information on routes 1,32 and 33 which operate overnight.

Sadly BE made a boo boo with their Dates here: www.buseireann.ie/site/your_journey/printed_timetable_pdfs/expressway/33.pdf

I think I know what they mean though....

    Eh, fixed.
Hello, and thank you for the message.

You are referring to the extra text page with Christmas/New Year alterations for route 33. You are correct in noticing that the reference to “January 2007” should have read “January 2008”. But all the other data on this page was/is correct.

In fact, the alterations for Dec 31st/Jan 1st were exactly the same this year as last year anyway; though the alterations for Dec 24th and 26th were different this year than last year.

Thank you again for writing, and you are welcome to get in touch with us any time you require any advice or assistance.

    Kind regards and bon voyage,

I think they missed the point.

The fact is that the dates didn't match the days properly.

For example, they said Christmas Eve was Sunday 24th December.

Every other subsequent day and date were wrong also.

Obviously they tweaked last year's page, but not enough!:D
