    Don't forget the buskers.

Galway has a wide plethora of buskers and street entertainers.

All excellent, especially the PlinkPlink man.

Where I come from, buskers meants some Roma kid being shoved onto a metro by his minders and made to play "Jingle Bells" on a rusty harmonica again and again and again.

I did my undergrad in Cork and I'm in Galway for my postgrad. Both are great. Galway seems a lot more studenty, but that's maybe because I'm living in a student area. You definitely notice a lot more students in town though. Galway is a lot smaller, but the NUIG campus seems a lot bigger.

As for the buskers :p, you can't beat the guy who can't play the violin but who does anyway on Oliver Plunkett Street in Cork!

To be honest, Cork seems to be your first choice, so stick with that if you're happy with it. Just put Galway down second. Either way you'll be attending good universities.

Open Day in NUIG on Thursday, it'd probably be worth your while coming up for that!

Personally.. I find the Cork accent comical, I'd never get any work done!

Funnily enough I was having a conversation with someone about the accents in Galway recently. In Cork I very very rarely hear a 'country' accent, but in Galway it's all I hear. I'm biased, but I love the Cork accent. I have a neutral accent though, no one in Galway believes I'm from Cork.

Forgot about the Open Day. Must make sure I stay away from college that day.

Ah come on now, there are people from every part of Cork with the 'Cork city' accent! Just not you and me, right? :p

Good luck at the open day. Have fun but don't treat it as a doss day. Find out where you need to go to get the info you need in advance. If you get yourself organised, you'll be able to have a laugh afterwards.

Anyone see a black guy playing a sax lately around HMV. He is brilliant. One of the most talented buskers I've seen around

He's been around for a while, usually plays outside AIB (I think it's AIB... kinda opposite from the music shop). Pretty damn good.

Glad you liked it, and of course, you're entitled to your opinion, but speaking as someone who has been (or is at the moment) a student at both NUIG and UCC, I would not say that NUIG is 'far better'. They're both pretty equal to be honest.

I would say the library in UCC is better, and that's before the huge job they just did on it. But of course the library wont be top of your priorities! UCC has two bars, which I suppose is a priority for first years! NUIG seem to have more going on. (Healthy Eating week and the market....although UCC do have a Tuesday market.) NUIG doesn't seem as cliquey as UCC, which is nice. One thing that does annoy me about NUIG is that you have to pay for printing. But I prefer the computer suites in NUIG. Don't know anything about the course, but I'd say both are great.

But of course it's all about what you're in to. I'd agree that the NUIG open day seemed better organised.

Glad you've made a decision that you're happy with. Good luck with everything!

I thought there was a better atmosphere in Galway....seems to be more student friendly!
UCC might be the same but I didnt really notice it

Which is better for parties, nightlife etc??

I'm still not sure which I'm going to go to but the points in Galway are 70 lower then Cork!

Well Galway as a city is very studenty. Cork city is bigger, and has more people, so you wouldn't notice students as much. Obviously both colleges are student friendly....they are designed for students! But ya, the atmosphere in NUIG is nice.

As for nightlife, Cork has the Brog, of course, which is as brilliant as it is smelly! And the college bars in UCC have a lot going on at night. Both cities are pretty crap for clubs I think, but clubbing really isn't my thing. There are loads of great pubs in Galway, but I can't name any of them because I'm usually just dragged somewhere random.

If you're looking for parties, then just hang around the student areas. This is easier in Cork as the student accommodation is all pretty close together, so you can move around. And if you really really want parties, well, just move to Corrib Village! I hear it's mad!

I wouldn't be basing my decision on the nightlife, etc, to be honest. Both Cork and Galway are pretty equal. I'd concentrate on finding out which course you are going to prefer, etc. You'll find fun anywhere, but if you are struggling through the course material you wont be around college long enough to enjoy yourself! (Sorry for being a bit serious there, but it's important!)

Corrib Village is for people who put craic way above passing exams. Some can do both (hopefully yours truly) but the temptation to doss about and party in corrib is hard to resist.
