Anybody ever receive a P&P top-up request from eHobby

(am wondering whether it's a particularly sophisticated phishing attempt, or genuine - needless to say, not replied/acted upon yet, save as to asking them to confirm the email addy via eBay messaging system)

nope. Sounds strange too. But then I'm paranoid having had loads of fake emails etc. usually concerning either ebay or paypal...

It's a Paypal message sent by jpc825.at.yahoo.com, which mentions ebayshipping.at.ehobbyasia.com as the addy to which to send any queries

(...yeah, right  = I've logged into my eBay and asked eHobby to confirm the jpc285 addy via the eBay messaging system, using the 'Contact the Seller' option on the auction page)

I've ordered many times from eHobby before, all shapes/sizes (from AEG plus bits, down to a mere sling), never once before received such a request

I've never heard of that myself. Why would they need any extra p&p beyond what's already stated in their store?

what ya mean by top up? you havent sent enough? this happened with me, they asked for a further 10usd but was all genuine,,.

Considering imho they charge over the odds already I would be very sceptical about this additional charge.

some people pay the postage quoted for america thinking its the same as its comming from HK, it was the same for my M9 spring set but thats because it was only small, the baby hi capa was $10 more,

you can see 2 ehobby stores. the one ebay.ie has does not have (or at least didnt have) aegs and all aegs related stuff (inc pistols etc). the ebay.com which are for the US market has everything including shipping costs for aegs etc ONLY for the US.

all non aeg stuff is sellable everywhere and the shipping is exactly as quoted. if you bought something for the US market only they will ask as vtec said for a top up.

This must be a new development as I was never asked to top up from the US site when I fired numerous orders through them.

    THERE IS YOUR CLUE.
    1. Ehobby like any eBusiness have their own email addresses. - It's free with the domain name. This came from a free email system with a randomly generated address.
    2. No business will ask you to top up any funds. They just won't ship until the money clears. Keeping funds in your account is your business, not theirs.
    3. If it smells Phishey. - It is.

I recently made a Purchase with ehobby
and shortly after made the purchase with redwolf.
(Both Through Paypal which links to my CC)

(I did not get any requests for topup and was careful as I
    am paranoid about internet security)

One of these purchases spooked Visa and they canceled my Credit Card
to be on the safe side.

It may be nothing I think it was the redwolf purchase but since you mentioned
a dodgy looking request said I would mention it just in case there is
someone out there trying to phish.

PS I can confirm email I got was from : jpc825@yahoo.com

Just checked the last email i had from ehobby and the same address is used.

    From: "eBay Member: airsoftshooting" <sm-member@ebay.com>
    Reply-To: jpc825@yahoo.com

    if that means anything...
Still, I'd be suspicious till it's confirmed as you requested.

Hate to be the only one disagreeing....but it has happened to me :)

That jpc address is actually eHobby...sometimes Ebay calculates the shipping wrong, and they email asking for a topup...its happened to me twice.

I also exchange a lot of emails with the guys there, and I recognise the JPC address as being theirs. I'd imagine its genuine, Ambro.

ordinarily i would agree with you 100%, however in this case, that actually is ehobby's email address, strange but true

i've never been asked for any topup amounts for p&p, however whenever i buy something from ehobby, i wait for them to send me a full invoice for everything i bought + p&p and then pay

Yeah when i bough my g-spec they asked me for an extra 20us. That email address is genuine.

Thx guys - I'll just give it a few days wait on the reply via eBay (it's only for $8, but I'm just not too hot/bit spooked about the direct Paypal message, instead of an eBay system one).

just becareful, its easy to copy an email address and send email from it. If there is a url to click, check for things like www1. or www2.

This is a trick used alot by myspace phishers. www1.myspace.com etc.

Also they may have a link that looks like paypal.com, they just type it, but it hyperlinks to 1.199.1990.990 or some bloody ip, or www2.paypal.ru, you can right click any link and view properties to see where it links to.

www1 and www2 is very often used by genuine sites to identify different webservers, doesn't necessarily mean it's phishing

if your ever in doubt of a link in an email, go directly to the website yourself by typing the address in

Or, go to the website it's claiming to be, and email them for clarification?
    -Just a thought..

    No reply yet via eBay.

I know it's the right email addy but, just to rub some salt in it, I just bought a xmas gift for my better Half last night on eBay US and paid via Paypal straight away, and what do you know, 2 mins later I got an email from 'Paypal' (accounts.at.paypal.us or .com, can't remember which) notifying me that they were "concerned with attempts to log into my account from overseas" and would "suspend my account for safety purposes unless I clicked on a <link> to confim the account".

Very official/good -looking email I might add, seen absolute tons of 417/phishing attempts in my time, but this one takes the biscuit yet...

Now got reply via email from eHobby, who confirmed it was them who sent the P&P top up request, so have now paid up - whereby P&P ($30) now = 50% of gun price ($59.99):mad:

Bit sh*tty if you ask me, especially since they don't restrict listing shipping to US (can't get into eHobby with guns from eBay.ie, but can from eBay.fr and P&P is the same :mad:).

A case of "Rip-Off Ireland by proxy"? :D

    You've seen it here first.

Finally managed to find this damn thread! This happened to me today. Asked for a $10 top up to send my Glock 19. Was extremely skeptical about the yahoo mail address. Then I vaguely remembered this thread..

Nice one guys. You saved me a headache :)

I didnt have any trouble with the hi capa from ehobby with customs but i suppose its hit and miss really., they also asked me for another tenner too.,

anytime i order from ehobby i wait for them to send me a paypal invoice (within a day) for the exact amount, saves any messing with topup payments and such
