Inspired by this thread going a bit off topic who are the bands/artists/musicians that everyone else always harps on about how brilliant they are but you just dont get it?

One of my best friend's sites Pearl Jam as his favourite band. In general we would have very similar taste in music but I just dont get it. I dont like Eddies voice, none of them are really outstanding musicians and I dont think they have any really outstanding songs. Yet they have millions of fans and are generaly considered by most to be a quality band.

Bob Marley is another one. Boring beyond belief nothing exciting happens in any of his songs they just kind of boom chka boom chka boom chka along for 4 minutes. Lyrical content fairly bad as well yet he is one of the top selling recording artists the world has ever seen.

Anyone have any similar ones? Do you think the Beatles are overhyped? Did you think Kurt Cobain was just a useless junky with a guitar?

Guns n Roses. I hate axl's voice. I get bored of the solos, they're technically good I suppose, but not all that interesting, and the lyrics are terrible. generally they just dont do it for me at all.

Arctic monkeys, utter tripe. Bad lyrics (I'm sorry NME they are not the voice of disaffected youth or whatever) about robots in 1984 and yer mans voice is annoying in the extreme.

Stereophonics. Worst band ever. EVER. SOOOOO BOOORING! boring whiney voice. boring guitar, boring lyrics, boring everything. Boring. Have I made my point?

Yeah I will add U2 to my list too. Utter sh!te. Disagree on The Arctic Monkeys I reallly think they have some great songs the last 3 tracks on the second album (The Bad Thing, Old Yellow Bricks, 505) are all class.

I have another one which should be fairly controversial on this board.

    The Smiths.

Ten was a great album and VS wasn't too bad either. After that they were very hit and miss. I would call Mike McCreedy an outstanding musician personally.

    Anyway:
The Smiths, U2, Iron Maiden, Arctic Monkeys, The Doors....

Ah now you can't be dissing the Smiths now. Well you can of course but it spoils an otherwise spot on list of overated cack.

I'd like to restate my intense dislike for probably the most respected band in the world - Pink bleedin' Floyd.

The fact that they sing about fishbowls, made concept albums, have "spectacular" light shows at their concerts, musically masturbate terminally endless guitar solo's, and have a fanbase that is predominantly made up of ford mondeo driving sales reps isn't enough to deter otherwise sane people from declaring the Floyd as godlike.

Other ones I don't get would be Paul Weller, Elvis Costello and the Fatima Mansions.

    Oh and nearly forgot...Muse.

Saw them at Reading years ago and tried really hard to understand why what I saw on stage was causing the crowd to go so mental. They were obsessed like.

Sounded like queen with way too many guitar solo's and a lot of dry ice.

Queen, by one of those country mile things. Why is it that anyone who really really likes them always calls them a "Bwilliant band"? Too many teeth, too much hair, too many short microphones stands. Aw the list is endless.

QFT except I do like REM and Hendrix (though wouldn't be obsessive). What is the attraction with smashing pumpkins???

Also Fionn Regan and Fiery Furnaces for me (I find the first intolerable and the latter meh)

    Good thread idea btw :)

This is a silly thread, it's not a far cry from the already dire "Who would you shoot" thread so locked.
