    Trasna na dTonnta

    Báidin Fheidhlimi

    Peigin Leitir Mhór

    Maidrin Rua

    Buachaill ón Eirne

    Chill Cais

If you want to wander down memory lane with the old Irish songs from school you can get hold of a copy of Cas Amhráin - my memories from the early eighties in National school:D

A Cailín Alainn - one of my all times favs!
And most of whats been mentioned.

Tho, you might have to be more specific if you want excat songs.

    Edit for lyrics:

    An Chailín Álainn

Tá cailín álainn, a dtug mé grá dhi
Sí ‘s deis’ is áille, ná bláth ‘s ná rós
Gan í ar láimh liom, is cloíte atá mé
Ó a chailín álainn, ‘s tú fáth mo bhróin

    Curfá:
A chailín álainn, a dtug mé grá duit
Ó bí ar láimh liom, mo mhíle stór
Ó abair liomsa, gur tú mo ghrá gheal
Beidh orm áthas, in áit an bhróin

Nuair a éirím, amach go huaigneach
Siúd é an uair, is mó mo bhrón
O bím ag smaointeamh, ar an chailín uasal
Atá i bhfad uaimse, mo chreach ‘s mo bhrón

Dá dtiocfá liomsa, a chailín álainn
Aríst go brách ní, bheadh orm brón
Sheinnfinn ceol duit, mar cheol na cláirsí
Nó ceol binn smóilín, ‘s an drúcht gheal cheo

    The Lovely Girl

There’s a beautiful girl whom I gave my love
She is kinder and lovelier than a flower or rose
Without her hand in mine, I’m weak
O beautiful girl, you’re the cause of my grief

    Chorus:
O beautiful girl whom I gave my love
Give me your hand, my dearest one
Tell me that you’re my bright love
And there will be happiness upon me instead of sorrow

    When I rise, lonely
That is the time my sorrow is greatest
I think of the precious girl
Who is far from me, my ruin and my grief

If you came to me, beautiful girl
Ever again, I wouldn’t be sad
I would play music for you like music of the harp
Or the sweet song of the thrush in the fog’s bright dew

Spraoi le Cheile is a brilliant free book of traditional childhood games, rhymes and songs, half the book is in Irish, and half in English.

Local County Childcare Committee will give you a copy, or PM me and I'll post one on.

I'm actually looking for a song I heard on RnaG twice, but can't find it anywhere. Thought I'd try this tread before I make a new tread. First time i heard it it was sung by Cian O'Rourke (Not sure about this) from his first album. Then I heard school kids singing it last night on a documentary. It's an emigrant song about someone lamenting for connemara. It goes Ohh Connemara, tá tu imigh uaimh a fada. Ta mó chroi briste ón uaighneas...........Something like that. Hope you can help me out. It's starting to drive me mad. And thanks in advance. Please excuse my grammar and not replying in irish,(Not too bad speaking it, But very bad writing it)

Óró sé de bheatha abhaile- a classic,

    Ólaim Puins is ólaim té

Baidín Fheilimí- most suited to young kids

    Súil amach an doras

    Is Leatsa í

Niamh Cin Óir (as Tír na nÓg)

Dúlaman na Buinne Buí- from the Telecom Eireann Ads

Cad é sin don té sin

    Sí do mhamó í

There's actually a website which has most of the famous ones where you can buy a CD of them for karaoke- if you're really into it like

Another vote here for 'Oró sé do bheatha bhaile'.

    I've always had a soft spot for this line from the song;

B'fhearr liom thú ná dha bó bainne. :D

You're thinkin of "Tír na n-Óg" by "Na Firéin".

Found the following lyrics at http://www.mudcat.org/thread.cfm?threadid=49833

    TÍR NA nÓG
    Colm Mac Séalaigh

Fadó fadó Éirinn, roimh theacht don nua-aois,
Bhí conaí ann ar an bhFiann,
    Fionn 's a mhac Oisín
Is iomaí eachtra a bhain leo siúd,
    Is iomaí casadh croí,
Ach ní dhéanfar dearmad ar an lá
    A bhuail Oisín le Niamh.

Niamh Chinn Ór, as Tír na nÓg,
B'í an bhean ab áille gné a chas ar Oisín Óg
    Mheall í é le breathacht,
    Mheall sí é le póg,
Mheall sí é gan aon agó
    Go Tír na nÓg

    Bhí Oisín, lá brea gréine,
Ag siúl le ciumhais na habhann
' Measc blathanna buí, is luachra,
    Taibhsíodh dó an tsamhail,
    Spéirbhean ghléigeal álainn
A d'fhag croí an laoich sin fann,
Thug cuireadh dó go ír na nÓg
    Go síoraí cónaí ann.

    Tír álainn, tír na hóige,
    Tír dhiamhair aislingí
Trí chéad bliain chaith Oisín ann
    I ngrá mór le Niamh
Ach fonn nár fhág é choíche,
Is nach bhféadfadh sé a chloí,
    Dul thar n-ais go hÉirinn,
    Go bhfeichfeadh sé í arís.

"Ná fág an áit seo," arsa Niamh
    "Ná himigh uaim, a chroí"
"Ma fhágann tusa Tír na nÓg,
    Nó fhillfidh tú arís."
    Ach d'fhill Oisín ar Éirinn,
    Mar bhí fiabhras ina chroí
Is fuair sé bás ós comhair an Naoimh
    B'shin deireadh lena thriall.

Tír na nÓg, ó Tír na nÓg,
Tír uasal na draíochta a bhí ann fadó,
    Féach thiar ansin í
    Thiar ar fhíor na spéire
San áit go mba mhaith liom bheith,
    Sin Tír na nÓg,

Try emailing your local Childcare Centre.

I enquired with the East Cork Childcare Centre by email, and they sent me one in the post within a few days, that was back in January so I don't see why it wouldn't still be available. :)

Welcome to Boards by the way :)

While we're on the topic, there was one song that we used to sing in "rounds". The only bit I can remember is

Tá na baid go deimhin san fharraige
Slán abhaile go dtaga na fir.

(apologies for the spelling/grammar). In my memory those two lines were just repeated ad nauseam. Anyone remember the song, or know if there was any more to it than that?

    http://abairleat.lurgan.biz/moodle/eir/3/books/casAmhran/book.html

This is the music programme by Colaiste Lurgan. If the link is broken you can enter it through desbishop.com and click cursa gaeilge and guest. It's a good way to learn songs and audio is availiable by clicking on the play buttons.
Note: when accessing an clar type in the number before that number to get the song your want. i.e. 2. Buachailli alainn, you put in 1 instead and so on.

There's one thing I miss on the Abair Leat website and I would dearly love to be able access again, and that's the on-line songbook where you could turn the pages, read the lyrics and press the buttons to hear the songs sung verse by verse - Cas Amhràn.
It might be difficult to find but there's a songbook for children by Noirin Ni Riain called Im Bim Baba Ro and published by Mercier, though it's out of print. (This was one of the songs that was sung so beautifully on the Cas Amhran). I like Rahblai Rabhlai and now there are two more books with CDs available - Tidil Eidil Ero and Scéilin o Bhéilin from Oidhreacht Corca Dhuibhne - http://www.oidhreacht.ie/foilseachain.asp

Ag gabháil ó thuaidh dom thar Sliabh Luachra
's mise cur tuairisg mo ghéanna
Ar mo chasadh anuas, sea fuair mé mo thuairisg go raibh maidrín rua á n-iarracht
An maidrín rua rua rua rua rua
    An maidrín rua atá dána
An maidrín rua ina luí sa luachar
's barr a dhá chluais in airde

Trasna na dtonnta dul siar, dul siar

Geal é mo chroí agus geal é an ghrian
Geal bheith ag filleadh go hÉirinn.
