Usage Concerns

    Hey all,

I got a Macbook for college in September and I'm very happy with it but I'm a bit concerned about how much I use it. I tend to do a lot of work on it, more than I thought I would be doing and to some extent it's become like another limb.

I'm just a little concerned about the battery and using it on the mains too. I'm wondering if there's any particular pattern I should adopt in using it, say use it on mains for X hours and then let the battery take over. I mostly have it on mains in the library and like any of these things it can get a little hot. Forgive me if this all seems a bit daft. I've used desktops in the past, laptops briefly but never owned one until now. Is there anything I should tweak in system preferences given how I use it?

    Thanks.

If you use it on mains a lot, run the battery down to 40% charge and store at at room temp.

I use my MB a lot, and I mean a lot:p Between work and general after work internet/IMing I would harbour a guess that the MB is in use for 12 hours a day on average. I usually get 4 hours out of a single charge (backlight completely dimmed, mute, etc) during work where I am typing/editing documents and looking up lexisnexis. I would usually leave it charge and then run off the battery. It's probably plugged into the mains for 2/3 hours a day. The battery still holds 98% of a charge.
