37" or 42" LCD TV for Sport and General Use?

Can someone please recommend an LCD TV for me - I'd like something around the 40 inches.

Usage will be general viewing and sport (rugby, hurling and soccer). I use Sky+ as my receiver.

Budget about 1,000 to 1,400 and would prefer to buy local (Limerick) rather than online.

    Thanks in advance.

Don't know too much about LCDs but I saw in one of the local papers that Soundstore and Harvey Normans have sales this week-end so they might be worth a visit.

The three that I've seen recommended are Samsung, Sony and Toshiba - not sure of the various model numbers.

If you're lookin for one in that size bracket, i'd advise you to buy a good brand. The 3 mentioned above are all excellent. panasonic, philips , sharp and LG are also very good.If you want to buy locally you should look(or ring) around to find the best deal. Its amazing how they vary in price so much(as much as 500euro)

Lads, thanks for the replies, but I'm clueless when it comes to TVs. I suppose what I'm looking for is the model number rather than the manufacturer.

In my price range (€1,400 max) what should I go for if I choose one of the following brands:

    - Sony
    - Toshiba
    - Samsung
    - Philips
    - LG

For that price this is the one I'd buy. http://www.allianceelectric.ie/products/tv/plasmalcd/th42pv70.htm Plasma is a better option if your going to be watching a lot of fast moving sports and movies. Panasonic process SD very well and the color is brilliant. Also If your will to buy online you can find it cheaper.

Thanks Uncle Sam but I'd prefer to go for an LCD.

I did a bit of window shopping today and saw a 40" Sony V model for €1300, what would the qualtity of this set be like and what would be comparible in the other manufacturers?
