Did anyone else see the cartoon in this mornings Metro? Its a little girl sitting on Santa's nee and the speech bubble reads "And please kill all the ebay bastards who bought up all the Wii's!"

    :D:p

Didnt have tome to do a scan.

Seriously though, Nintendo are the King of christmas. My 6yr niece and my 30 yr old siste in law are both getting DS's as presents. Im shocked at how many people I know who have or are getting DS's and Wii's.

They are the new puppies, like them for a while but it wont take long before they are tired/bored of it.

I get the feeling that a lot of "kids" want these for Xmas because there is nothing else new out there to grab their attention. I may be wrong or out of touch but isnt there usually a big new fad around this time of year that whips kids into a frenzy. There doesnt seem to be anything this year, so kids are falling back on the Wii and DS, which have been out for over a year.

Thats a bit harsh - the whole point of Nintendo's strategy is to introduce non gamers to consoles and its working well.

The more new gamers the better as Nintendo will b e rewarded for being innovative as they should be.

the days of nerdy 14-23 year olds in smoky rooms having exclusive domain over the gaming world is coming to an end and good riddance I say.

For some maybe, time will tell. DS lite was a great move by Nintendo, there everywhere now. Some very strong games for the Wii this crimbo.

The DS seems to be a must have for a certain age group now. My niece begs to play mine when ever she's over and at a family event recently all the kids were crowding round playing and setting up local WiFi games!!

I think the Wii is coming in to its own now with the current set of games. I have a few ear marked for christmas and I know there will be loads of multiplayer fun going on with my family this christmas.

I'd actually agree with brav. I had a wii in the house for a couple of weeks and it was fun for the first couple of nights but it just bored me after that. Maybe I should have given it more of a chance but it didn't grab me like the 360 did with Gears Of War. That said, I'll probably buy a Wii when the next Star Wars game comes out :D

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 895 ✭✭✭brav

Well my comment was made towards the wii, I think the DS has a better lasting appeal(and gets used a lot more than a wii in my house).

I think the wii has a lack of games and im not really counting any games which are multi platform because tbh, I would buy the 360 version normally over the wii version.
Unless of course that game used the wii's controllers perfectly(like a star wars game), because at the moment the games just look like last gen.

I think thats the appeal of the wii tbh. Parents actually want to buy their kids one as they see ads of whole families playing games. Its far more appealing than having a kid stuck in his room for hours on end.

And the quality of graphics is overstated for a majority of gamers. Sure there are people who need to have the latest and greatest graphics but there are also enough people who want "good enough" graphics and the gameplay/longetivity of the game is more important.

It says a lot for the wii that well over a year after launch its getting more and more popular. Despite the claims of some that it won't last, word of mouth is obviously fuelling the current craze (and clever marketing obviously)

Since this post is called wii for Christmas, what are the chances of getting one (smug smile to myself as I got it last Dec).

I was in gamestop in Navan getting a 360 and the guy behind the counter said that they are sold out, have a waiting list of 40 and don't know how many they'll get before Chrimbo.

have a look at the other threads (mulitplees)

Even though I rarely play mine, I'm still keeping because of upcoming games, im a sucker for games like wii sports, marioware, wii fit etc because of the multiplyer fun etc.
Mario looks like a good game but I don't think there are many games for the wii that make use of it like the ds

I'm a bit smothered with wii games right now and find the whole "there's no good games out for wii" arguement a bit last july tbh.

Yes there was a dearth of games available but right now I'm trying to get through Metroid, Mario (paper and galaxy) and Fifa (which I love and I don't care) before the light gun games (which I also love) come out.

I've ordered myself two of these so I can dual yeild in Ghost Squad when it comes out. Then there's Resident Evil and a host of other games out for chrimbo.

The wii is fighting strong at the moment and there are certainly games out there to keep people occupied. If your willing to use the Wii to it's potential it's fantastic. Internet Channel and the Virtual Console are well used on mine. Some of the channels are a bit crap but it's all good for a free service.

There are at least 3 great games released in the last month or 2 which warrant the purchase of it. Add to that Zelda from the launch and some other really good (if a little shallow) party games and it's a very entertaining system. Not really for hardcore gamers though. More a recreational machine

Well of course the machine isn't aimed at hardcore gamers, it is beyond me why would would buy an xbox 360 when every single game thats any good on it will either be released on another console or on the pc, the only one i can think of that i care about that i cant play without borrowing a console is halo 3 and that is pretty much the same as halo 2 with a few new guns, better graphics and a few new toys and enemys...the cost of things like that used to be a few cheats, now its 60 euro...thats the reason why i stopped playing my ps2, i got sick of rehashed games. ive also heard people complaining that 'well mario has this many games' and so on, yet every version provided a new and innovative aspect to the gameplay :D and if you can compare super mario brothers to super mario galaxy in terms of gameplay without using the words 'run' 'jump' or 'mushroom' you're retarded :D

I don't know why you are calling him a scammer. That's not a scam.

It is when he resells them at 500 a piece on ebay to anxious parents worried they won't get their kids dream present for chrimbo - profiteering.

Unless of course he has seven children and is very generous.

Or it could have been snow white in disguise buying gifts for the little fellas

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 18,823 ✭✭✭✭K.O.Kiki

    That's not a scammer, that's a touter.

Scammer is when he puts them up on eBay, then takes the money & doesn't even send the consoles on!

I totally agree with everything Brav has said

Ok DS are fantastic if a little soft, my 2 fellas got them from Santa last christmas and we are currently on number 2 for both of them, Frist one fell of the sofa and cracked, bought a replacement, second one "joystick" stoped working for the right action and it was replaced under warranty. bought them the armor for both hopefully will last a bit longer... They have not be put down for the year except during the summer holidays
Getting Wii this christmas with Crash, Mario galaxy sports and Wiiplay extra remotes as well so hopefully have some brill family fun around christmas :D

Nintendo shot themselves in the foot. Imagine the number of kids getting PS3 and 360s because Santa couldn't get a Wii. I have never seen Nintendo advertise so strongly as this year, and at the most crucial time of the shopping calendar, you cant buy the wii.

And while you cant get one in Ireland, they're everywhere in Spain/Germany

hey was just wondering do yee think there'll be a shortage of games this christmas??like mario galaxy and guitar hero?? im not back till the 21st of december just wondering would i be better off getting someone else to get the games for me or do yee think there'll be enough around?? never really bought games for a console at christmas before so not sure what the story is with them..

Doesn't seem to be a lack of either in the shops. I'd half expected a shortage of Galaxy, but everywhere still seems to have it. Word of warning, Galaxy is €45 in Xtravision, but Virgin are €60.

Think it's in the 40s in Tesco too

€40-45 eh? better get myself a copy so. especially since my 360 has just died.

    Think again.

Checked Komplett.ie today to see if they had any Wii's left (yeah, being hopeful) but nothing on main screen. Did a search and found this :

    http://www.komplett.ie/k/search.aspx?q=wii+console

WTF? its just the standard bundle with a 2nd sensor for €359!! is this a mistake or Komplett about to do a little dodgy dealing closer to Christmas for desperate parents?

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 1 walterh

€359 for the base unit and additional sensor (why ?????) is a bit steep. I bet they'll still sell out quickly though.
The sensor bar on it's own is just €29.50 http://www.komplett.ie/k/ki.aspx?sku=341266 .
That's some profiteering going on at Komplett.

They were selling them last week for €10.00 less than they are this week!!
