being watching the 2007 wsop horse event.....
i'm gonna try and learn some of the games played in it myself, but as i havent really got a clue how to play them, apart from limit holdem i'm just wondering where to start..
Which game would you recommend i learn first and in what order?....
has any one any good resources/links and how a beginner could get started?

    cheers

A quick google turned up this simple guide: http://poker.about.com/od/pokervariations/g/HORSE.htm

Once you have a basic grounding one variation, I'd recommend playing the micro stakes for a while to get used to the dynamics of the game and adjust to the subtle differences in the software.

Don't learn them all at once! You'll find yourself overloaded with information and struggle to play the games accordingly.

As far as books go, I think they're a bit thin on the ground for games other than Limit Hold'em and I'm not in a position to recommend any one.

    - Learn stud first - 3 games are variations on stud
    - Then learn hi/lo games - 2 variations here
    - Then dive into Omaha hi/lo a bit more.
    - Then Razz - a lot of people struggle here but I think Razz is probably the easiest to pick up if you have a good grounding in poker theory and maths.

Yes as Imposter said learn stud first because there are more stud games and your edge will be greater playing these games. Get your hands on both copies of the book Supersystem by Doyle Brunson.

Supersystem 1 read the chapter on Stud by Chip Reese, if you never read another article on it it would still give you an edge over the other stud players if you adhered to it.

Supersystem 2 read the chapter by Todd Brunson on stud8

Razz is simple, you could just read the few pages on it in SS1 and play less moronically than others tend to, later on if you are really getting into horse then read Sklansky on Poker which contains an earlier short book he wrote called Sklansky on Razz.

There are innumerable limit hold em books, but Jen Harmen in SS2 is good.

For O8 read Bobby Baldwin's chapter in SS2.

HORSE is great fun to play, best of luck with it.

I read the O8, stud, stud 8 and razz parts in SS1 and SS2 one week and won the ftp horse tourney that sunday.

If i was you id just read up on the games and play some lowstakes cash on ftp or stars.
