Hello ,just wondering if there is a general rule for hum's on pc's ?

Is it because there is not a proper ground ? Or is it solely the cables?

I've no problem with my PC speakers ,just a long run to my stereo is causing trouble:(

    earth loop.
    or bad connector
or poor /lack of screen on cable

Run PC volume full and turn down amplifier.

Thanks watty ,the hum is audible even at 30% volume:(,theres something I was going to try with this .
I'm not sure if there is any point though.
What I've found is ,when I unplug the usb cable from my Xmod the hum goes away, regardless of whether the pc is turned on or not. The hum is still there when I unplug the power cable from the psu aswell.
So I'm thinking its from the TV end is the problem,

I was going to wire some earth cable into a plug and wrap it around the phono connection of the cable ,hoping it would take up the noise. Is there any point ?
