Can anyone give me some advice on getting started equipment etc. I live in the city so have no knowledge of good locations, landowners etc. and know no one with suitable lands to shoot on. am happy to travel as i'm sure i will have to

Bit late in the year now and with new legislation regarding seasons looks like it could be a thing of the past

Hardly "new", this is the 5th year of the new season. I for one wasn't aware of the change and hand been going by the 2000 act, as were a number of other users of this forum, even this year there was pigeon shooting pictures put up in the hunting sticky

Here's a site I put together some time ago. Haven't been able to update it as I changed laptop to Vista & website program won't work on Vista.

You may learn something from it - best of luck!

You can still shoot them outside te season for crop protection. Happy days so ..a bit of flattened corn is better than any decoy...

How do you prove crop protection?
Is it just a case of shooting over a crop they eat, or do you have to be able to prove that the crop was damaged and no alternitive to shooting

    That's the tricky one.

I supposes it's all a matter of interpretation.

Say you have a cornfield with a couple of scarecrows with a good bit of flattened corn in it after a gale and crows and pigeons are flying in and out all day but never in big flocks..can you claim crop protection when all other reasonable means have failed ?

Other case : What about a farmer putting out sleepy crow style stuff, is that still legal while taking out his gun and shooting a few while scaring away the rest for a while wouldn't ?

My own personal point of view would be as follows.

    crop in field : shoot
    stubble : don't
