My DIY 1X12 Mesa Thiele style cab, big shout out to voodoo child for finding me the plans ;)

Just after a 10 minute test drive there and whoaa!!! Sh!t it's loud.
Roll on the weekend, when the neighbours are out, will give it hell then.

    Cost;
    Tolex/Glue/Screws/Handle/Corner Pieces/Jack/Jack Dish 50 Euro
    Speaker 70 Euro
    MDF 10 Euro
    Weather Strip 5 Euro
All the internal bracing used to be part of an old bunk bed!!! :D

Total 135 Euro, plus alot of sweat/blood/tears, well worth it in the end.
Not complete yet, but hopefully I'll get round to that on the weekend.
Have to tolex it and make a frame for the grill, yet to decide the grill cloth.

    Here's a few pics;

Excellent stuff, great to hear she sounds good.

I'd say stick with a black grille, keep it simple and understated.

Thanks, and yeah black is probably safe out :D
Oh yeah forgot to mention, at the start I thought I made one major f*ck up with the cab, I think the back is supposed to be removable.
When I started the build, I just tore into it and lets say it will forever be a closed back cab, not that it matters now :p

Nice work! Is it closed or is that venting on the bottom? Looks well. :) I think the tolexing would be the part that puts me off doing it myself.

Thanks, tis closed back and front ported, this be the real-deal.
On the original plans, it has the option of a removable port cover, which would be mounted to cover the centre port.

Yeah, not lookin' forward to the tolexin'

Ah, I probably would've put some funky green tolex on there, but that's just me. :)

Yeah, I came across that a few weeks back, that's some fine tolexin' :D. I'll be using that as a guide when I do start.

Looked at a lot of different colours, was goin' to settle on oxblood but the thing is it might look cool on the net but when ya get it, it could be a totally different shade, so ended up settlin' with black.

Man, that would've looked cool too.

I'm probably not alone in this, but I think there's a serious lack of colour in gear. I know people will say "But Karl, most of your gear is black!" but honestly, that's only because my prefered gear doesn't come in any other colours.

At least put some funky ass grille on there! Something like this maybe!? :D

Definitely. I agree with ya there about the lack of colour. When I ordered my Schecter there a few months ago I went with the cherry black it looks awesome, but I also loved it in black.
As regards the grill, I'll have a look round, sorry but not a fan of that one there dude. Thing about the grill I can use any kind of material really, so somethin' cool might show up.

Ah yeah, not saying you should go with something exactly like that, but it just the possibilities of what you can do with regards to grills. I mean, you could probably get a plain grill and paint it yourself. I'd love to get a cabinet, and have the face of Domokun on it. :D

would it be hard to find plans for a 1x15 and a 2x10 for a bass? Would it be possible to do them so that one amp powers them both? The cab build looks pretty straight forward on this build. I am inspired!

The one thing that i would worry about with your cab is the butt joints, the movement from whatever frequencies you might produce could cause them to loosen up regarless of the glue used. The build above is using inlaid dovetails, so when they pull appart they tighten.. they are pretty messy to do, but alright to make when you get your head around em.

Other than the joint and possibly the mdf you've used, fkin great job, it looks great! Make sure you round off them edges for the tolex when it goes on.

Where did you get your speaker from?

When I got the plans and checked on other forums[for this model], folk had no worries about mdf and the use of butt joints.
There's the added security of the bracing in the cab to consider too. This thing is solid as a rock.
All joints are sealed with builders caulk to make it airtight.
If I wasn't lazy and went down the road of dovetail joints, I more than likely would've chosen some nice wood and definitely avoid the tolex. Unless I made a balls up with the dovetails :pac:

The speaker I got from http://www.auto-connect.co.uk/
I don't think they stock the one I got any more.
