Starting temp job on Monday

I had a meeting in a recruitment agency today and they rang back earlier offering my a job in a stockbrokers. tbh I just said yes straight away without asking any questions. I have 2 years of a computer science degree done and no work experience in an office. I don't actually have a clue what the job is. She didn't tell me for a while that the job was just for a week "and we'll see after that".

The dress code is "Business Suit/corporate". I have no suit. What's corporate?

One thing I worry about is not being able for a job so if I don't actually know what the job is I'll be crapping myself walking up to the door on Monday. Any idea's what I'll be doing? What to wear?

Just wear trousers and a shirt and tie, that will be fine. after your first day you will be able to judge whether you need to wear something different.

dont worry about the job. you will be fine. the company know your only a temp and wont expect you to be able to do everything, they would have recieved a copy of your CV from the agency anyway so they know what you ahve done before.

throughout the whole thing just remember "your a temp" dont worry about anything in there too much. they wont be expecting too much from you. it doesnt matter if your not great(unless of course this is a company you would like to work for in a full time capacity or if you want to work there for much longer than a week).

    hope that eases your mind!

just go in wearing a pair of decent shoes, Dark trousers, white coller shirt and Tie, no need to wear a suit, if you do not have them go to a charity shop you will get them cheap there. hell they are only work clothes anyway. when you get there play it by ear they will show you whats to be done

You'll be going in as 'The Temp'. They won't expect too much from you which is great because it will give you a chance to shine and do well. I spent 10 months temping a while back and really enjoyed the mix of work and variety of jobs. I was offered 3 or 4 jobs while temping. In fact, my partner got his current job in a merchant bank when he temped there. They offered him a full-time job after a few weeks.

If you don't have a suit, then get a decent pair of pants, shirt and tie. You'll be able to kit yourself out in Penney's for less than E50. Once you've been there a day or two, you'll have a better idea of what they expect from you.

    Good luck and have fun

Don't worry about it too much. They'll show you what they need you to do. If you're not able to do it, not a big deal. Just ring up the agency during the day (or give it another couple of days to be sure) and tell them that you can't do it. They'll probably ring up the job and explain. Then the agency just looks for another job for you and you can forget about this one!!! It won't be stuck on your CV or anythin like that, but the agency will take it into account when finding you another job, and give you a less technical one possibly.

Don't lose any sleep over it, it's only a temp job

What kind of work were you doing?

If you can afford a suit, buy one. You should probably have one anyway, for funerals, weddings, interviews :) etc.

Personally I think cheap suits look cheap, so buy the best you can afford. Hugo Boss start at €600.

I bought a nice suit in TK Max today for €130, reduced from €480. Think this is it:

That should ease the worries a little. :)

As others have said its unlikely they'll be expecting big things from you. Plus to be fair to the recruitment agency if it was a more advanced role they probably wouldnt send you there on your first assignment. going on my experience someone will prob go through your duties with you the first morning.

I hope so. It's just that the girl I met in the agency has been really trying to get me into a job which requires a degree and 6 months experience. :) I don't know what it is but there's no worse feeling than being told to do something that you can't do. One of my worst experiences was my mam sending me to one of her friends house to fix their computer. The friends husband sat their beside me and it must have been an hour and a half before he realised I didn't have a clue how to fix it. :D I just have a habit of telling people that I know what I'm doing when I really don't. I think that'll have to change.
