How much of a thread will you read?

    Just curious about this.

I mean, take AH for example, I never have the time to read some of the 9 page plus threads, so I basically just read the OP's initial statement or question and then answer it, I will then check back to see if anyone has replied to my opinion, if by at least a page goes by without anyone responding i'll usually stop checking the thread.

It would be interesting to see what other people here do, if they actually read other people posts or just read the ones relevant to their own post?

If I've missed the first page or so I generally start from the last page and work back.

Depending on the thread I'll read it all.

if i intend to post in a thread i'll read it in full. i hate the feckers who don't read the thread in full before they post... it's like hijacking a conversation at times, questions asked that have already been answered or restating arguments that have already been done to death...

that is unless it's one of those mega threads like the Liverpool or United ones in the soccer forum...

or i'm too drunk to read...

Mostly this ^ unless thread seems very interesting, like in Politics, PI or regional.

If I post in a thread I generally read the whole thing. Even when I'm drunk. But in that case I usually forget everything I've read (including the thread title) the second I hit the post reply button so I just end up posting some random gibberish.

I like to quote the initial post, comment on it, and ignore any other posts in the thread.

i try to read threads as they start, and if it looks interesting i try and follow as the days go on.
if i post something i want a reply to, then yeah ill check back to it.
    like this one :)

usually i subscribe to the decent threads im interested in

I parse through the posts. If a post looks interesting I might have a look. I usually skim past all the QFT and +1.

Once a thread gets overly huge its usually not worth the effort.

    none...what's this thread about?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 14,184 ✭✭✭✭Pighead

Pighead reads every post, every line, every word. To do otherwise would be highly disrespectful to both the Thread Starter and the Inventor of the Internet.

Some people seem to take for granted the magic involved in making words travel from your brain to a world wide audience in a matter of seconds. You kids don't know you're born these days.

If a thread's interesting to me then I'll read almost every post. Sometimes I'll skip some if I can see a few posters have gotten into a sideline argument that doesn't interest me. Also, sometimes I'll lose interest in a thread I've posted on or been following and won't bother with any of the new posts.

Best bet is to be selective about the threads you read.

I used to have to read most threads for mod purposes and AH had some super long! Respect to my former AH brothers. :p Now I am more selective and normally read the first post and a few of the replies.

    I like that.

Keep an eye on this, Eamo.

I try to read every post in every thread in AH.
I find it easier to pass judgement on others if I have read all posts. It helps with the bannings.

I always read all posts. It avoids some smart arse saying "why didn't you read the entire thread" so thats why I do it.

Its people like you who wreck my head!! ;):D This is why you have a question answered by a rake of people repeating exactly what previous posters have already said. Pointless IMHO. I always quickly browse over a page or two to see if anyone has already answered. If someone has, I don't bother posting. Case in point, I checked the two pages of this thread to see if someone else had already posted about headwreckers who post an answer already posted 10 times in the thread. :D
