Lens alternative?

Hey I was just wondering. I bought a cheap 50mm 1.8 lens awhile back there and I'm really impressed with the results I have gotten so far. However the 50mm tends to isolate subjects unless I'm quite far away from them. Are there any other lens' on the market for Canon that have the same low light capabilities of this fast lens but with a bit wider focal range? That isnt going to cost me an arm and a leg.... Any suggestions would be well appreciated.

    Thanks.

There are wider lens's, but you will be paying an arm and a leg. Unfortunately speed = €€€ with the ol' light boxes. How dark are you talking about? You can get something a bit slower, but wider that may be able to do what you're trying to do.

How much is an arm? or a leg for that matter!

What are you shooting, and what are the lighting conditions? Would you consider using a flash?

Well you could get a zoom.
The 17-55 f2.8 would be a good lens for your needs

But it does cost a lot.

Cheapest alternative would to buy an older wider manual focus lens with a wide aperture perhaps? If you can live with manual focussing then it could be the way to go.

I'm shooting mainly portraits indoors and at night, I don't really want to use the flash cause I like the more 'dynamic' light on peoples faces. You know?
Eh The older manual focus one could be cool any suggestions? How well would the 2.8 work in the conditions I operate in? The 50mm works well at the moment its just I'd like to have a bit more leeway in terms of encorporating more of the subject in the photo. I know portraits usually focus on the face but I would like to take more pictures of things going on inside houses/pubs/offices. Thanks.

Ive never actually used it personally but ive kind of got my eye on the sigma 30mm 1.4 which retails over here at about 260 quid...so your looking about 400-450 Euros i think

Then you'll probably want a wide angle, 17mm at the most, especially if you're going to be in an enclose space. There's a 10-20mm which is supposed to be good, but will set you back a few bob.

    maybe something like a Canon 28mm f1.8 or the Sigma 30mm f1.4.
