some amazing prices here, not certain whether you have to wait to buy until friday itself or the prices apply already. if someone with more time can put through an order and post back that would be good. think i'll be getting a few here...

The seasons of 'House' are the two best deals in it - an absolute bargain!

This is American yeah? So any electrical goods will be subject to import duty? Am I right in saying that? I hope not :(

AFAIK they don't ship electrical goods to Ireland.

Careful with the import duty too. Spent about $60 on Amazon recently and got hit for duty of about €20.

:eek:do amazon not use the US Postal Service for delivery? have never been hit with customs when i've ordered from either www.deepdiscount.com or www.dvdpacific.com both of whom deliver by USPS, may have to re-organise my deliveries to keep them below the thresholds - though the shipping charges may mean i lose out on the bargainocity!

actually just realised why amazon might get hit more than other companies is the fact that they have their branding on the boxes - the other companies i've used just use plain boxes.

decided to avoid the risk of customs by dividing up my order, cost an extra $4 per order so $12 in total but safer than VAT and An Post charges.
The two Grindhouse films (Tarantion & Rodriguez) are great value (both double discs) totals $32.45 including shipping which works out at 22euro. Two seasons of weeds works out about 28euro and a few other bits and bobs make it well worthwhile.

AFAIK you'll have to have a multi-region DVD player or a region 1 DVD player to play American DVDs. The DVD drive on a PC will usually allow you to change its region a set number of times (usually 4 or 5 times) before it becomes locked to one region. If you put in a DVD from another region, the PC will ask if you want to change the drive's region setting and will also tell you how many more times this setting can be changed.

European and Japanese DVDs are region 2

And isn't there loads of freeware stuff around that will unlock the player/dvd???

Yeah, there are often workarounds - I was referring to how the hardware handles region restriction 'out of the box'.
