Nope I don't watch any Tv on Christmas day either. Though in the days running up to and the days after Die Hard, Indiana Jones and Scrooged are essentials.

    Top Christmas Day Films

    Trading Places
    Ghostbusters
    Scrooged
    The Santa Clause
    Superman
    Die Hard and Die Harder
    Home Alone
    The Goonies
    Star Wars
    Groundhog Day
    Airplane

A good Christmas movie doesn't even have to be very christmassy. It all has to do with providing the spirit of Christmas, like peace and joy in the household when the whole family is engaged in watching a movie they've seen a thousand times.

I like it, because my dad will vaguelly recall the events of the movie and decided to remind us of that fact mere moments before each major event. My sister will constantly test me by asking where she's seen a particular actor before. And my mother will laugh at any slapstick joke and cringe at any person being killed.

I like the OP's films in their first post. Any of those would be good, nice selection. I suppose I might add a couple more, Oliver Twist the old black and white version with Alec Guinness, is brilliant. Also the 1951 movie of A Christmas Carol with Alister Sim is a classic.

    Best Christmas film ever!

Always watch The Snowman and Muppets Christmas Carol too.

Scrooged is also great in the run up to Christmas.

A Christmas Carol - as someone said, the Alastair Sim version is classic.

    It's a Wonderful Life

The Great Escape - just doesn't date!

    Home Alone 1

    The Wizard of Oz

I think people have covered everything to be honest.

scrooged is a great christmas eve film if you're about the house and die hard as well.

On christmas day you really need some sort of action blockbuster. indiana jones and the goonies are solid choices.

I've never actually seen "its a wonderful life", just bits and pieces and the ending. I have it on dvd so it might finally get a watch at some stage this year (i.e. christmas).

that stop animation rudolph film with ardal o hanlon also always seems to be on christmas day and is good in the morning.

santa claus the movie used to be on rte a good bit but hasn't been shown in years, love to see it again.

It wouldnt be Christmas without it! I also love the first 2 home alones, the snowman, the forgotten toys , the secret garden, the holiday and the Tim Allen Santa Clause movies. The disney version of a christmas carol - excellent. Oh and Willa wonka - the old one with Gene Wilder :)

I hope you do get to watch it - it's a lovely little movie. The kind that makes you grab the tissues at the end and sob how much you've enjoyed it.

Good call. I enjoyed the oriiginal so much more than the remake. I love Johnny Depp but I didn't really like his WW.
