region free planet earth

went onto play.com and want to get planet earth on blu-ray.someone left a comment saying that it is better to buy the american version of planet earth as it was encoded in 1080p instead of 1080i.it is also cheaper in the us.checked out playusa.com but they say it is region coded.now i know blu-rays are region coded but those anyone know if the blu-ray of planet earth is not as the other poster sayed.

I have the UK version , much better because it includes an extra disc ( american version is only 4 discs ) with the making of documentary also in HD with some fascinating insights into the equipment used and how it was done , I dont know how big your set is , but you'd be hard pushed to tell the difference between 1080p and 1080i on a screen smaller than 50 inches.

I watched most of this on the BBC HD through Sky HD , Sky broadcast in 1080i and the picture was jaw droppingly good , so I would recommend the full UK set over the basic USA set any day, 1080p or not. Most broadcasting companies broadcast in 1080i anyway so you'd still be getting original broadcast quality material regardless.
