Hey all, I'm looking for a bit of help. After a pre planning meeting recently, the local authority (you can guess which one :D) asked us to do a traffic count adjacent to our proposed site. We need to get one of those counters where the two rubber strips are nailed to the road, with the box chained to a pole/post. We have tried all the hire shops here and I have used the golden pages and google to no avail. So if anybody knows where they can be got, either to hire or possibly purchase, I would be grateful if you could let me know.

Oh and please indicate on thread if you can help and pm me the details. ;)

    Many thanks.

    Thanks sinnerboy.

Can't we just get a box and do it ourselves or is the box linked to a special software package?

Could you locate one on another road and nick it :D Or maybe even get the boss to allow you sit out there in the car for a couple of days and just count the cars yourself.

Seriously though I will make a couple of inquires and see what i can come up with

As a matter of interest, if you do it yourself who is going to verify the results?

Did you try the NRA ,they presumably do this type of monitoring all the time.

I believe (could easily be wrong),
that the NRA do this monitoring on much larger roads and higher volumes of traffic,
because of this they use photo-counters as opposed to pressure counters. They are little small camera like boxes that are suspended above the road. People often mistake them for speed cameras or CCTV

No, I think you have to do it using the pressure sensing devices as those overhead lane cameras are a fixed feature.

Sorry, I wasn't suggesting that Smashy use the cameras, i was saying that the NRA use the camera and not the pressure sensors AFAIK, so they might not be a possible source. Although they might have an old pair they will lend out, worth a shot at least.
