Livigno is great, I love it!

Was there the second week in March before and there was loads of snow, going the second week in March this year too.

Livigno is very hard to predict - I was there in March a few years ago, and the snow was ropey (more like ice granules than snow tbh). Some years it's grand. Looks like a cold winter up ahead though, so you might be fine.

Snow anywhere in March is likely to be ropey, more likely to get it in a high resort like Livigno though.

livigno is a top bet, cheap to book, cheap eating and drinking when you are there, great park, what more could a boy want?

First week in March could be hit and miss anywhere tbh, but Livigno is a good bet in general. It was early Feb when I was there so not really an issue then. If it a is winter like last year then good luck, but it looks like it is shaping up to be better though, but sadly I might not get away anywhere by the looks of things :(

Apart from last year i've found there to be loads of snow in March. Beginning of March is no problem. Ok if you like your off-piste then it might be a problem as you won't be getting much if any fresh snow but on piste is fine. I've done long weekends 2 years at the end of march and snow conditions were fine. It was quite warm and getting sunburnt was ridiculously easy but the snow was fine. In reality I find I ski more in January and March than I do in Febuary. That's largely because of the crowds in the resorts and the availability of accomodation but anyways.

The season here usually goes to Easter (middle of April usually) so there is still snow but the last bit of that is usually dodgy enough.

If your in to snowboarding there is an Irish contingent going on the 09 March I think, Ireland first snowboarding championship on snow.

    +1 for Livigno.

I was there last year and it did start to get a little choppy towards the last day or two (heading into late jan) but considering the situation in other resorts around Europe, it was perfect.

Off-piste is illegal in Livigno, you get arrested if you're found off-piste. Livigno means avalanche supposedly... I'm just going with what the rep told me :P

Well I was in Maddness snowboard school and we did a little off piste with them last year!

I went off piste quite a bit in livigno aswell! I'm sure plenty of people saw me and didn't call the cops!!! I have a feeling that might have been "rep talk"

Only if they catch you :D

But seriously, people die every single year in avalanches in Livigno. Until you've seen how easily an avalanche can start, you shouldn't go anywhere off-piste without a local instructor. I went way off-piste on the Mottolino side one year, and found out later that two people died in that spot about 3 days earlier.

I'd recommend Kenny (Scuola Sci Livigno instructor) for a bit of off-piste guidance - I still have nightmares about the crazy skidoo-ride and tree-run he took some of us on a couple of years ago
