The Personnel details of 25 million people in the uk have gone missing .The 2 discs ,which include bank account numbers and children's allowance went missing in the post .It was revealed that they were posted as normal post and not registered and deliverd by Courier as would be expected .

Hard to believe , that's about 6 times the population of ireland and according to the lunch time rte news , ' a wake up call for the goverment here '.

Spectacular is the only word for it. Three weeks past before the penny dropped, if I were requesting confidential information and had'nt recieved it within a set period I'd be on the phone. Sounds like they had/have no checking system at all.

Would you put a national ID scheme in the hands of these people?

    Mike.

I can't put it better than Alice Miles in today's London Times:

Idiots. Utter, unbelievable, jaw-dropping, unpardonable idiots. It is beyond farce, past comprehension, criminally irresponsible and beneath contempt. It is shocking, it is risible, it is hilarious.
