i want to post this to get some opinions into whether or not i was hallucinating.
the other day i was at a local shopping centre which offers a glass drop off area.
it just so happened that the truck was there to collect the glass.
so being a fan of loud noises and smashing glass i thought id have a gander.

to my surprise the truck picked up each of the nicely sorted glass recpticles and, one by one, proceeded to empty them all in the same big skip like container on the back of the truck.

does anyone know if this is standard procedure?
seems like a bit of a waste of my time to separate them if it is...

    thanks for reading

hmm, maybe it would encourage more people to use them if they didnt have to spend time sorting the glass?

anyone know if this is hapening at more places?

I've seen this in the past but the skip had different divisions inside. You can't realy expect different trucks to collect different types of glass, so whatever vehicle is used needs to have separate areas inside.

Thats sounds surprising. I hope they're not just binning it all...

I saw this many years ago, but couldn't figure out why when I passed the depot that the glass was properly sorted.
Reason is that these skip containers appear are sectioned off but don't look like they are from the outside.
It's very important that glass is separated into different colours as mixed dcolours are virtually worthless to any third market.

I work for a local council and collect the bottle banks from sites and take to central depot. Clear glass gos to get melted and turned back in to new bottles, windows etc. Brown and green get crushed together down to a fine powder and then can be used to make insulation for lofts, roofs and walls also can be used in tarring roads. hope this helps answer a few questions:):):)
